‘The Hunting Wives’ Season 2 Officially Begins Production
We’ve got exciting news for anyone who’s been craving more Southern secrets, complicated friendships, and sapphic tension: The Hunting Wives Season 2 has officially begun production. Netflix confirmed the news this past Monday, and honestly? We’ve been buzzing ever since.
Before we get into the new season, we need to acknowledge something many of you have pointed out: fans outside the U.S. still haven’t been able to watch Season 1. Right now, the show is streaming exclusively on Netflix in the United States, on Crave in Canada, and on Stan in Australia. It’s been a frustratingly limited rollout, and we feel that.
The complicated availability comes down to the show’s unusual path to release. The Hunting Wives wasn’t originally made for Netflix; it began as a project for Starz. When Starz and Lionsgate parted ways, Lionsgate reacquired the rights. Netflix then picked up the show for a one-year U.S.-only licensing deal, not a full worldwide acquisition. Even with that limited reach, the series still became a breakout success. Created by Rebecca Cutter and based on May Cobb’s bestselling novel of the same name, Season 1 spent five weeks in Netflix’s global English Top 10 and pulled in more than 20 million views, all while streaming in just one territory.
Now that Netflix has renewed the series, Season 2 will release as a Netflix-branded original in nearly every country where Netflix operates, which means a much wider audience is finally about to join in on the chaos.

And if you’re new to the show or waiting for it to reach your region, here’s why we can’t stop talking about it. The series follows Sophie O’Neil (Brittany Snow), who moves from Boston to a small East Texas town hoping to rebuild her life with some peace and stability. That plan unravels the moment she meets Margo Banks (Malin Akerman), a stunning, magnetic socialite who leads a tight-knit circle of wealthy women known as the Hunting Wives.
Sophie is pulled into their world with alarming speed: late-night parties, secret shooting gatherings in the woods, and a kind of intoxicating, charged attention from Margo that she hasn’t felt in years. Their chemistry between them is loud, undeniable, and very much the sapphic toxic chaos we live for.
But things turn dark quickly. A teenage girl from the community is found murdered, and the investigation suddenly points Sophie as the main suspect. Local deputies—including Salazar (Karen Rodriguez) and Flynn (Hunter Emery)—begin treating her as someone worth questioning, and Sophie realizes the glamorous circle she’s entered may be hiding more than just social rivalries. As she looks closer to clear her name, she uncovers cracks beneath the polished surface of the Hunting Wives: jealousy, manipulation, obsession, and secrets that carry real danger.
The deeper she gets, the clearer it becomes that she’s in far over her head, especially with her tangled connection to Margo pulling her in even deeper. The season ends with several major turns that reshape everything, but we’ll let new viewers discover those shocks for themselves.

According to Netflix, Season 2 will pick up in the aftermath of that explosive ending. The official logline reads: “At the start of Season 2, Sophie and Margo are on the outs. But soon enough, old secrets and new foes force them back together. As they play their dangerous games, the question arises: Are they the hunters or the hunted?” If that doesn’t scream “Sophie and Margo are about to bring us even more deliciously unhinged queer tension,” we don’t know what does.
Returning cast members include Brittany Snow, Malin Akerman, Jaime Ray Newman, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit, and George Ferrier. Karen Rodriguez and Hunter Emery return in expanded roles as series regulars, and Branton Box (Sheriff Johnny) will also be back. Additional casting announcements are still to come.
With production now underway, we’re really hoping this also means Season 1 will finally expand into more regions so fans everywhere can catch up. And as soon as we learn more about Season 2’s release, new cast additions, or the show’s international availability, we’ll keep y’all updated.
Until then, we’ll just be over here counting the days until we’re back in East Texas, watching Sophie and Margo tear each other’s worlds apart in the most delicious way possible.
