Netflix’s ‘The Four Seasons’ Trailer Promises Laughs, Heart, and a Whole Lot of Drama

Ahead of its May 1 premiere, Netflix has dropped the full trailer for The Four Seasons, its brand-new comedy series starring comedy icons and dramatic heavyweights alike Tina Fey, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani, Erika Henningsen, with Colman Domingo, and Steve Carell. And if the trailer is anything to go by, we’re in for an emotional rollercoaster…with a cocktail in hand.

Inspired by the 1981 film of the same name — which starred Alan Alda, Carol Burnett, Len Cariou, Sandy Dennis, Rita Moreno, and Jack Weston — this updated version takes the original vacation-fueled drama and injects it with a fresh, funny, and heartfelt new perspective. The show follows six longtime friends who head out on a supposedly relaxing weekend getaway, only to be blindsided when one of the couples announces their split. That news sends ripples (read: waves) through the rest of the group, and we get to watch how the dynamic shifts across four very different vacations throughout the year.

The couples at the center of the chaos are Kate (Tina Fey) and Jack (Will Forte), Nick (Steve Carell) and Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver), and Danny (Colman Domingo) and Claude (Marco Calvani). And yes that last couple is exactly the queer representation we’re excited about. Watching two gay men navigate a friend group shake-up in the middle of paradise? Yes, please.

Co-created by Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield, The Four Seasons is being pitched as a love letter to long-term relationships and even longer friendships — the messy, funny, complicated, and tender parts included. And from what we see in the trailer, it looks like that love letter will be sealed with top-tier writing and a stellar cast that knows how to land both a punchline and an emotional gut punch.

We’re not gonna lie, this show feels like it’s right up our alley: whip-smart comedy, a little melodrama, an ensemble cast packed with LGBTQ+ talent and characters. What more could we ask for? Honestly, we’re already clearing our calendars for a May 1 binge.

Behind the scenes, the series is co-created and written by Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield, with additional writing from Lisa Muse Bryant, Vali Chandrasekaran, Dylan Morgan, John Riggi, Josh Siegal, and Matt Whitaker. The episodes are directed by filmmaking duo Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini (Girl Most Likely, Ten Thousand Saints, Fleishman Is in Trouble, Succession, Only Murders in the Building), bringing a cinematic edge to this small-screen story. The show is produced by Universal Television and Little Stranger, with Alan Alda and Marissa Bregman producing, and David Miner, Jeff Richmond, Eric Gurian, Tracey Wigfield, Lang Fisher, and Tina Fey all on board as executive producers.

May 1 can’t come soon enough.
