My Policeman: Harry Styles’ upcoming queer movie

My Policeman, one of the most anticipated movies of 2022, has dropped its first official trailer. The Amazon Studios production is directed by Michael Grandage and features Harry Styles, Linus Roache, Gina McKee, Emma Corrin, and Rupert Everett. Slated for global release, the film will drop in selected theaters on October 21, 2022. It will then move for widespread release on Amazon Prime’s streaming service on November 4, 2022.

The source material, which the film is based on, is set in Brighton, England in the 1950’s. Young Marion (Emma Corrin) falls in love with Tom (Harry Styles), and she isn’t the only one. Patrick (David Dawson) also takes fancy with Tom, but it’s the 1950’s y’all, and back then being gay was not socially acceptable.

Despite the fact that Tom loves Patrick back (and does not love Marion at all), because of the social pressures of that time, Tom does what society expects of him and marries Marion. However, Patrick does not exit Tom’s life at this point and their relationship continues behind Marion’s back.

Marion becomes exceptionally jealous of the relationship that exists between her husband and his “friend” and exposes Patrick’s gay indiscretions. Like so many others during that time, Patrick is arrested for indecency.

While finite details of how closely the film is slated to follow the novel of the same name, written by Bethan Roberts, it is known that the film adaptation begins in the 1990s. A chance encounter between the elderly versions of Patrick and Tom ignites whatever passions existed in them some 40 years ago and they revisit the relationship that they once had.
