Lux Pascal’s Miss Carbón Gets a Release Date in Spain—and Its First Trailer

Chilean actress Lux Pascal’s long-awaited film Miss Carbón is finally coming, and we’re so ready. Today, we learned that the feature will hit theaters in Spain on June 13, marking the official debut of this powerful LGBTQ+ story. Sadly, there’s still no confirmed international release date just yet (yeah, we know, ugh), but there’s a silver lining: Netflix has confirmed that Miss Carbón will land on the platform following its theatrical run. So no matter where you are in the world, you’ll be able to stream it soon(ish). We’ll share more on that when a streaming release date is set.

Directed by Agustina Macri and written by Erika Halvorsen, the film is inspired by the real-life story of Carla Antonella Rodríguez, the first woman to land a job in a coal mine in the Argentine province of Santa Cruz. Women were forbidden from working in the mines, but Carla—who is trans and had male documentation at the time—broke that barrier. It’s a groundbreaking story brought to life by a standout cast including Lux Pascal, Lucía Grandinetti, Romina Escobar, Simone Mercado, Agos Innella, and Federico Marzullo, with a special appearance by Spanish actor-director Paco León.

Pascal plays Carla, Carlita to those who know her, a transgender woman who enters a world that not only rejects her identity but clings to a dangerous superstition that forbids women from entering the underground galleries. The film dives deep into gender identity, trans visibility, and the harsh clash between tradition and progress in hyper-masculine work environments.

Watch the newly released trailer below because trust us, you don’t want to miss this one.

Shot across Argentine Patagonia and the Basque Country, Miss Carbón beautifully captures Carlita’s defiant spirit and the striking landscapes that shaped her journey. A Spanish-Argentine co-production from Morena Films, Pensa & Rocca Cine, and The Warning of Rivard AIE, with backing from Movistar+ and Filmin, the film will be distributed in Spain by Caramel Films, with Fandango Sales handling international rights.

This theatrical release not only marks a major moment in Lux Pascal’s career but also highlights the increasing space being made for trans narratives in global cinema, something we need now more than ever. In a world where queer and trans rights are constantly under attack, representation like this is essential.

We absolutely can’t wait to watch Miss Carbón and celebrate Carlita’s legacy on screen.
