The Last of Us Season 2 Arrives This April
It’s no secret that The Last of Us is one of the most anticipated returning series of 2025. After the smash hit that was its first season, everyone and their mother has been waiting to see what’s next for Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey). While we’ve all been speculating about when we’ll get the next chapter of this apocalyptic journey, Co-creator, writer, and executive producer Neil Druckmann has just dropped some exciting news: the second season is coming sooner than we expected—April, to be precise.
Druckmann shared the announcement during Sony’s press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES ®) on Monday, sending the fandom into a frenzy. The new season will feature seven episodes, promising a condensed yet impactful continuation of the story. Fans of the video game likely have an idea of what’s in store, but for those who don’t, buckle up. Season 2 continues the tale of apocalypse survivors Joel, Ellie, and Joel’s brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna). It will also introduce several new characters, including Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever, who takes center stage in the teaser trailer also released on Monday and Isabela Merced who will portray Dina, Ellie’s romantic interest, giving us a major LGBTQ+ storyline to look forward to.
The 30-second teaser is packed with intensity and tension, blending scenes we’ve glimpsed before with brand-new moments, offering us a glimpse of what’s to come—and if the vibe is any indication, we’re in for heartbreak, action, and emotional turmoil.
Max’s official logline gives us another clue about what to expect: “Five years after the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.” Again, for those familiar with the source material, you know what this means. For everyone else? Expect pain. Lots and lots of pain.
The Last of Us is based on the acclaimed video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation® consoles, is written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. The series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television and is also executive produced by Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells; with writer/co-executive producer Halley Gross. Production companies: PlayStation Productions, Word Games, Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog
We can’t wait for The Last of Us Season 2 to hit our screens this April. Until then, it’s the perfect time to rewatch Season 1 or maybe even revisit the game. Check out the teaser trailer below, and keep an eye on this space—we’ll keep you updated with all the latest news.
