Heated Rivalry Season 2 Adds Six New Cast Members, Including Brendan Morgan as Zane Boodram

The Heated Rivalry family keeps growing, and Crave is back with another casting announcement for the very much globally anticipated second season of its smash-hit queer hockey drama. Today, six new faces were announced for Season 2, adding even more familiar Game Changers characters to an already very stacked lineup.

So, who are we getting this time? First up, we have Brendan Morgan (F** Marry Kill*, The Handmaid’s Tale), who will play Zane Boodram, aka Bood, the alternate captain of the Ottawa Centaurs and the team’s unofficial social captain. Bood is known for loving a good barbecue (regardless of the cold Canadian weather) and for bringing the team together for various social events, so we’re very excited to see more of the Centaurs’ off-ice dynamic in Season 2. 

David Tomlinson (Fellow Travelers, Silent Night) will play Cody Kent, the adaptation’s new name for the character known as Dallas Kent in Rachel Reid’s Game Changers books. Cody is a former Toronto Guardians star who was once Troy Barrett’s (Charlie Gillespie) best friend and teammate, making his arrival particularly relevant to Troy’s storyline. Nick Stahl (Let the Right One In, Terminator 3) will play Curtis Barrett, Troy’s estranged father. Curtis has a difficult relationship with his son, giving us yet another glimpse into Troy’s life outside of hockey.

Then there’s Gerry Dee (Mr. D, Animal Control) as Coach Cooper, the head coach of the Toronto Guardians. Book readers will recognize him as one of the figures associated with the toxic hockey culture surrounding Troy and Ryan (Daniel Diemer) in Tough Guy (Book #3), so we’re definitely curious to see how that dynamic translates to the screen.

On the Ottawa side, Michelle Mylett (Letterkenny, El Camino Christmas) will play Lisa, Wyatt Hayes’ wife. She’s a doctor who met Wyatt (Robert Naylor) while treating him after he broke his collarbone. And Lauren Chan (The Devil Wears Prada 2, Canada’s Drag Race) is joining as Gen, a professional photographer who works with the Ottawa Centaurs.

Now, here’s our theory for the new season: with so many characters from Tough Guy already confirmed for Season 2, we’re pretty much convinced the new season will open with the events of that book. The big question is how the show will incorporate those events. Could we get a full episode—or even a few episodes—dedicated to it? Could some of it appear through flashbacks? We’re leaning toward the first option, especially because it would give the show a natural way to establish the timeline before moving into Role Model (Book #5) and The Long Game (Book #6), the two books we know are being adapted for Season 2 and whose stories take place at the same time.

But anygays… we guess we’ll have to wait and see. These six new additions join the already massive Season 2 cast, including Hudson Williams as Shane Hollander, Connor Storrie as Ilya Rozanov, Justice Smith as Harris Drover, Charlie Gillespie as Troy Barrett, Daniel Diemer as Ryan Price, Shaheen Jafargholi as Fabian Salah, Emily Hampshire as Vanessa, Edvin Ryding as Luca Haas, Robert Naylor as Wyatt Hayes, Sabrina Jalees as Farah Jalali, Priyanka as Tarek, Kevin Zegers as Coach Wiebe, Paul Gross as Commissioner Roger Crowell, and Milla Jovovich as Dr. Galina Molchalina, along with returning Season 1 cast members Sophie Nélisse, Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova, François Arnaud, Robbie G.K., Christina Chang, Dylan Walsh, Callan Potter, Benjamin Roy, and Kamilla Kowal.

With Season 2 currently in production and expected to premiere in Spring 2027, there are still plenty of characters we haven’t met yet. For now, we’ll be keeping a very close eye on whatever comes next from Heated Rivalry headquarters, because apparently Crave has decided we’re not allowed to go more than a few weeks without another casting announcement.
