vincethealien Turns Anger Into Dancefloor Catharsis on ‘Poisonous Child’
We’ve all had moments when an emotion sticks around long after we think we’ve moved past it. For vincethealien, that feeling became the starting point for Poisonous Child, an atmospheric, genre-blurring single that turns unresolved anger, changing friendships, and emotional vulnerability into something we can actually move through.
Released alongside TATISHI/COLDPRESSEDPAPI and BLCKBUTTERFLY, the track finds three queer Black artists creating space for emotional honesty without having to hide behind the usual defenses. That collaboration is key to Poisonous Child’s personality, with BLCKBUTTERFLY bringing infectious hip-hop-inspired ad-libs to the opening and Tatishi adding a verse that cuts straight to the song’s emotional heart with the lyric, “Just show me an emotion.”
For vincethealien, the song began with anger that had been building through friendships that changed, drifted apart, or ended without much explanation. “When I started writing Poisonous Child, I realized I’d been carrying around an anger that had been quietly building for a long time,” he says.
That anger isn’t treated as something that simply needs to disappear. Instead, Poisonous Child asks what we might learn from sitting with it long enough to understand where it comes from. The track’s emotional tension comes from that push and pull between wanting answers and accepting that some relationships may never provide the closure we hoped for.

The song also carries a sense of physical movement that keeps its heavier themes from becoming overwhelming. Production from MOTTRON gives the track an infectious energy, creating an interesting contrast with the vulnerability underneath the lyrics. We can dance to it while still sitting with what the song is actually saying, which feels very much like the point.
“Poisonous Child is about confronting anger, but it’s also about what can happen when you stop resisting your emotions and let yourself move through them,” vincethealien explains. “If people find themselves dancing while also feeling something deeper underneath, then I think we accomplished exactly what we set out to do.”
That idea of dropping our defenses also carries into the song’s visual identity. The cover artwork focuses on removing masks, reflecting the ways we can protect ourselves by hiding parts of what we’re feeling. For an artist exploring desire, connection, healing, and self-discovery, the imagery fits naturally with a song about allowing those hidden emotions to come to the surface.
“The process of writing this song required a removal of multiple masks that kept me from facing myself,” he says. “My goal is to continue to remove masks that keep me hidden from myself and others.”

Poisonous Child is part of the larger story vincethealien is building toward his upcoming EP, A Necessary Breaking, due in January 2027. But for now, the single gives us plenty to sit with: anger that needs to be understood, relationships that don’t always come with neat endings, and the possibility of finding a little freedom once we stop pretending we’re fine.
And if we can dance our way through some of that emotional mess along the way, even better.
