Young Royals renewed for a third and final season

It’s official, folks! There will be another season of Young Royals! Netflix announced today the renewal of the Swedish teen drama series for a third and final season. 

Young Royals – which premiered on July 1, 2021 – is a coming-of-age drama set in one of the richest, most exclusive private boarding schools in Sweden, Hillerska. The series follows the romance between Prince Wilhelm of Sweden (Edvin Ryding) and his fellow non-res student Simon Eriksson (Omar Rudberg). The second season of the series dropped on the streaming platform just this past November. 

At the end of Season 2 and after a very bumpy road, we saw Wilhelm and Simon finally land on the same page when it came to their relationship. But with Wilhelm spilling all the tea during his final speech about his involvement in the sex tape that got leaked last semester, the future of our beloved Wilhelm and Simon was left hanging in the air. 

Will the crown accept Wilhelm’s challenge or not? Will they try to sink the Wilmon ship? Is it time to start the revolution? There are many questions, but thanks to the queer gods, before long we will have the answers. 

And although no release date for the third and final season has been provided, it’s been confirmed that all lead cast members will return for the final chapter. Including Edvin Ryding as Prince Wilhelm, Omar Rudberg as Simon, Frida Argento as Sara, Malte Gårdinger as August, and Nikita Uggla as Felice. Lisa Ambjörn will also return as head writer and co-creator. 

We know it’s a little bit bittersweet that such an amazing series is coming to an end, but in the words of creator Lisa Ambjörn, “I’ve always imagined Young Royals being told in three parts, and because of the fans’ dedication to our story, we get to tell the last one. The ending has been clear to me from the start and I’m so thankful and honored to get to finish this saga as intended.”

So let’s all smile through our tears and enjoy this third and final ride together.
