Jinkies! Scooby Doo’s Velma is officially part of the LGBTQ+ community

It’s a day of celebration for the lesbians as long time suspected LGBTQ community member, Scooby Doo’s Velma, is officially declared a ladygay in the upcoming HBO Max Scooby Doo Halloween flick.

Clips released today are currently making rounds on social media platforms that confirm that Velma, voiced by actor and comedian Kate Micucci, has a lady boner for another female character in the production.

Your honor, she gay, and we’re here to say OOOOKAYYY!!

In the steamy moment of the reveal, Velma’s glasses fog up and her face flushes as she becomes flustered over Coco – a costume designer who clearly has Velma’s knickers in a knot!

Velma

The moment warrants a classic “Jinkies!” from Velma before an onslaught of flirting continues throughout the film.

Later in the film, Velma opens up to Daphne and verbally confirms her crush on Coco as she begs Daphne for advice on how to move through the situation.

Throughout this character’s history, fans have long believed that she was a member of the LGBTQ community. Lucky for lesbians (and Velma) the entertainment industry seems to be in a place where actually naming this characteristic is possible for her.

It’s worth noting however, that such a power move has been attempted before. In 2020, in the live action adaptation of Scooby Doo, Velma’s character was originally scripted as explicitly gay.

Director James Gunn took to Twitter to explain why that never eventuated.

“But the studio just kept watering it down & watering it down, becoming ambiguous (the version shot), then nothing (the released version) & finally having a boyfriend (the sequel).”

Hayley Kiyoko who played Velma in 2008 is also a member of the LGBTQ community. Her nickname is lesbian Jesus and folks have been commenting all day (including Kiyoko herself) about how prophetic it was for a lesbian to play this character, who is now coming out as a lesbian.

We now have another LGBTQ movie to add to our watchlist this Halloween. Jinkies!
