Drive-Away Dolls: A First Look

Queer cinema is enjoying a diverse range of storytelling right now, and while the industry still has a ways to go, queer people are enjoying a variety of representations of queerness and queer stories on our screens. Today, we’ve got a first look at Drive-Away Dolls, an upcoming motion picture from writers Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke. Scheduled for release in theaters in February of 2024, Drive-Away Dolls is one to look out for.

It’s the story of  Jamie (Margaret Qualley), an uninhabited free spirit who is lamenting over yet another breakup with a girlfriend, and her shy, reserved, and exceptionally uptight friend Marian (Geraldine Viswanathan). Completely over their lives, both wildly unhappy with the current state of things, and desperate for a change, the two girls decide to take a journey together, hoping to inject life back into their blackened souls.

Jamie and Marian decide to take an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee, but in true comedic fashion, nothing goes quite as planned, because of course it doesn’t. While on their travels, their journey intersects with a group of highly inept criminals, which lands the two girls in all kinds of hot situations.

Here’s a first look at the teaser trailer for Drive-Away Dolls:

Likely to incite a few belly laughs, Drive-Away Dolls also features the likes of Matt Damon, the wonderful Pedro Pascal, Beanie Feldstein, Colman Domingo, and Bill Camp.

Writer and director Ethan Coen has enjoyed much success. He is an Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning writer, producer, and director. Known for his work on The Big Lebowski, The Ladykillers, No Country for Old Men, and Burn After Reading, Ethan Coen has dozens of successful works to his name.

Drive-Away Dolls is slated for a nationwide cinematic release in the United States on February 23, 2024.
