Heartstopper Forever Release Date Revealed: Nick and Charlie’s Final Chapter Lands This July
Today marks a full-circle moment for fans of Heartstopper. On the fourth anniversary of the beloved series first arriving on Netflix, we finally have the news we’ve all been waiting for: the Heartstopper Forever release date has officially been announced. And yes, we’re already emotional about it.
Netflix took to social media to celebrate the occasion, sharing a heartfelt video featuring moments from the cast across all three seasons. The nostalgic clip builds toward the big reveal: Heartstopper Forever, the final chapter in Nick and Charlie’s story, will premiere on July 17, exclusively on Netflix. As if that wasn’t enough to send us spiraling, the announcement also came with a brand-new behind-the-scenes image of the cast together on set—one last glimpse at the found family that has meant so much to so many of us (see above).
Picking up after the Season 3 finale, Heartstopper Forever continues to explore the evolving relationships at the heart of the series. Nick (Kit Connor), Charlie (Joe Locke), and their friends have already taken major emotional steps forward, but growing up never really slows down. This final installment promises to dive deeper into what comes next.
Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum, creator and award-winning writer Alice Oseman described the film as “an exploration of time, memory, love, pain, the changing of the seasons, endings and beginnings, and the core element of Heartstopper: the ordinary magic of our everyday lives.” And that balance of tenderness and truth is exactly what has made this story such a cornerstone of queer storytelling for a new generation.
The official synopsis teases what’s ahead: “Nick and Charlie are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?”
While no additional plot details have been revealed just yet, fans eager for clues can turn to the now-completed Heartstopper webcomic, which is available to read for free on Tapas. Of course, as with any adaptation, we’re expecting a few changes along the way, but that just adds to the anticipation.
Heartstopper Forever stars Emmy Award winners Kit Connor and Joe Locke, who also take on executive producer roles for the first time. They’re joined by returning cast members William Gao, Yasmin Finney, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Tobie Donovan, Jenny Walser, Rhea Norwood, and Leila Khan. The film is written by Oseman, with Patrick Walters, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, and Euros Lyn also serving as executive producers.
We’ve spent years laughing, crying, and growing alongside these characters, so saying goodbye won’t be easy. Still, having the Heartstopper Forever release date locked in makes it all feel real.
