Pageant Queens Premieres This Fall: A New Era of Drag Storytelling Begins
If you’ve been waiting for your next drag binge, consider your search officially over. Pageant Queens: Our Story Behind the Crown is heading our way this fall, and we’re already clearing our schedules. This new docuseries doesn’t just celebrate drag; it centers the legacy, artistry, and queer power behind one of the most influential corners of our community.
This 12-episode series lifts the curtain on drag pageantry in a way we rarely get to see. Instead of cutthroat eliminations, Pageant Queens gives us something far more meaningful: a space where iconic entertainers come together to build, collaborate, and share the stories that shaped them. Director Travis Stancil puts it plainly. “From the first episode, viewers see that these queens are here to share what drag truly means to them,” he says. “It’s an emotional journey that reveals their struggles, triumphs, and untold stories. We’re shining light on the experiences that shaped this art form.”

Under Stancil’s leadership, with Michael Silas as Artistic Director, the series follows ten national titleholders moving into a South Florida mansion to prepare for the title of The Queen of Drag and a $50,000 prize. But once everyone settles in, it becomes clear that the real magic isn’t in the competition. It’s in the sisterhood. We watch the queens live together, nurture each other, and even design their own pageant from the ground up.
Yes, the queens get to design their own pageant, vote on their judges, debate the scoring system, and craft the performances that will ultimately crown their winner. Stancil explains, “We showcase how drag queens truly live between their brunch shows and nightlife performances. We offer a real behind-the-scenes experience.” That authenticity, paired with the queens’ vulnerability, is what makes the series feel so vital and so beautifully queer.
And this cast? Truly the definition of stacked. These ten entertainers hold more than thirty-eight national titles across legendary systems like Miss Continental, Miss Gay America, Entertainer of the Year, Miss Gay USofA, Miss Glamorous, Miss Black Universe, Miss Black America, and more. We’re talking Kennedy Davenport, Layla Larue, Shae Shae Lareese, A’zsia Dupree, Tonica E. Cavalli, Joan Jullian, Tatiyanna Voche, Tiffany T. Hunter, Alexis Gabrielle Sherrington, and Buff Faye. These queens aren’t just competitors; they’re architects of the art form.

And all of this unfolds against the neon heartbeat of South Florida—Miami, Fort Lauderdale, South Beach, Wilton Manors, Lauderhill—a choice the creators made with purpose. As Stancil shares, “You can’t create change by staying in safe spaces. By shining bright here [Florida], we send a message of perseverance, visibility, and hope.” And that message resonates in every episode as the queens open up about identity, family, resilience, and the fight to be seen on their own terms.
Even with a crown and cash on the line, the stakes feel much deeper. “The ladies are not only fighting to win,” Stancil says. “They are fighting for respect, to make their mark in history and for their pageantry to be recognized as the best in the world.” That’s the heart of this show. It’s not just about glamour. It’s about honoring the entertainers who built drag pageantry into what it is today and making sure their stories are finally given the spotlight they deserve.
The first ten episodes of Pageant Queens: Our Story Behind the Crown arrive this fall, with a two-part finale dropping shortly after. As Stancil promises, “This is just the beginning. We’re building something bigger than a show. We’re building a legacy. One crown at a time.”
The series starts streaming November 24. The platform announcement is still under wraps, but you can keep up with all the updates by following Pageant Queens on Instagram and YouTube. Trust us, you’ll want this one queued the second it drops.
