Edvin Ryding & Omar Rudberg talk Young Royals: No season 2 spoilers, we promise!

Young Royals nation, unite! Q+ Magazine sat down with lead actors Edvin Ryding & Omar Rudberg to chat about the much anticipated season 2 of the Netflix show. They spilled the tea on many of the season 2 secrets, but we’ve promised y’all that we wouldn’t release any spoiler content until the show is out. And we won’t. However, we’re dying to share our experience chatting with these two young men with you all, so we’ve prepared a non-spoiler write-up of our conversation.

We promise it’s safe to proceed!

The full video of the interview is scheduled for release on November 2, but for now, we can share with you our musings over the attachment that Edvin Ryding & Omar Rudberg have to their characters, their dedication to Young Royals, and the answer to a fan-asked question.

Here is everything we can spill about the Q+ Magazine interview with Edvin Ryding & Omar Rudberg that won’t break your spoiler bank.

Edvin Ryding & Omar Rudberg in da house!

One of the very first things we observed when the interview kicked off was the profound presence that these two young men command. Despite the fact that the interview took place on zoom, it was impossible to ignore the excitement that each of these individuals brought into the space. They were comfortable, confident, and extremely happy about the fact that we were about to have a conversation about their work, and their beloved Wilhelm and Simon.

Their smiles, radiant and infectious, filled the space around us. It’s abundantly clear that they are comfortable with each other in a way that only real friends who share a genuine connection can be. They may be excellent professional coworkers, but it’s obvious that their bond extends way past that (their socials are also a direct confirmation of this, too). The way they listen to each other and feed off of one another is something wonderful to observe.

Edvin Ryding glows with pride at multiple points throughout our interview when Omar Rudberg is unpacking the complexities of his character Simon, and Rudberg leans into Ryding for support when he’s having trouble expressing himself (the man speaks three languages, we can’t even imagine the God-tier code-switching that goes on inside his brain at all times).

Edvin Ryding & Omar Rudberg are the kind of people that you could sit around a fire pit with and talk to for hours on end. Their thoughts and their perspectives on the issues in this show are complex and nuanced. It’s obvious they’ve spent many hours talking about these things together and they’re so ready to share these musings with the world.

Wilhelm and Simon

Edvin Ryding & Omar Rudberg know their characters profoundly well, and they know each other’s characters just as intimately as their own. During the course of our conversation, we chatted about the decisions that each of them has to face in season 2, how they go about making these choices, the impacts of this, and some more specific questions that required deep character introspection from them both: and they delivered a serve.

Both young men are so articulate when speaking about Wilhelm and Simon. Ryding talks about Wilhlem with care and precision and Rudberg comes from a place of pure protection. Their love for these characters is real, y’all, and it’s obvious that this story has become more than just a job for these two humans.

As fans, many of us feel exceptionally attached to Wilhelm and Simon, but no one is more attached to them than Ryding and Rudberg. The affection conveyed by them both, and the calculated intention they employ when speaking about Wilhelm and Simon demonstrates the intense connection they each have to their characters. They speak about them like Wilhelm and Simon are their family members, instead of just two guys they adapt to when they go to work.

This is a testament to their work ethic and their dedicated approach to the show, but it’s also a testament to who they are as people. They care – a lot – about these characters and they care how they are going to be received when their stories burst onto our screens on November 1st.

The fan question

As promised, we managed to sneak in a final fan question at the end. Full disclosure, we were running against a clock and had been told twice to wrap it up, so we had to cut off Omar in the middle of answering a question to sneak this in (put us in the time-out corner, we deserve it). The way our staffer positively died, y’all, but we knew we had to get that question in! Because of that, we’d like to apologize to Omar for doing that, but the response that each of them gave to the question was so perfectly articulated that we hope you’ll think it was worth it.

We would like to preface this and say that while the question we selected was from @wilmonamonos quite a few others also wanted us to ask this question (or some variation of it).

What is the one thing that Wilhelm loves the most about Simon, and what is the one thing that Simon loves the most about Wilhelm?

Ryding thought this was a brilliant question and responded accordingly. He said that, because of his upbringing and the environment that Wilhelm was raised in, the thing that Wilhelm loves about Simon the most is his transparency. He talks extensively about how that might change in s2 but he doubles down on the fact that this is definitely what draws Wilhelm in.

Omar thought about the question for a moment but landed on the idea that Simon feels that Wilhelm loves him for exactly who he is. That Simon doesn’t have to change for Wilhlem, and this is important to Simon because he won’t change.

To see what else they said about this question, you’ll have to tune into the full video release on November 2. Suscribe to our YouTube channel and turn notifications on to know the minute it drops! In our very spoilery interview, Edvin Ryding & Omar Rudberg take a deep psychological dive into the motivations of each of their characters, and some of the wild choices they both make thorough the six episodes.
