Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling to Star in ‘Pillion’

Alright, buckle up, folks, because we’ve got some thrilling news straight from the movie world’s racetrack! Variety just announced that Alexander Skarsgård (The Northman, Succession) and Harry Melling (The Pale Blue Eye, The Queen’s Gambit), are set to lead the cast of Pillion, a queer film described as a “fun and filthy romance with heart.”

So, what’s the buzz about Pillion? Well, hold onto your helmets because this one’s a wild ride! Produced by the multi-Oscar-winning powerhouse Element Pictures and set to be launched in Cannes by Cornerstone, Pillion marks the feature debut of director Harry Lighton, known for his BAFTA-nominated short Wren Boys. Based on Adam Mars-Jones’ novel Box Hill, this film is not your average romance.

Set in 1975, Pillion follows the unexpected romance between Colin (Melling), a shy young man content with letting life pass him by, and Ray (Skarsgård), the impossibly handsome leader of a kinky, queer motorbike club. Ray introduces Colin to a vibrant community of kinky, queer bikers, igniting a journey of self-discovery and passion. As Colin delves deeper into Ray’s world of rules and desires, he confronts the question of whether this new life as a 24/7 submissive is his true calling or merely another form of suffocation.

Behind the scenes, the film boasts an impressive lineup. It’s an Element Pictures production, financed by BBC Film, Picturehouse Entertainment, and September Films, with distribution in the U.K. and Benelux handled by Picturehouse and September Films respectively. The BFI is also lending its support to this groundbreaking project. Under the direction of Harry Lighton, alongside a team of award-winning creatives like cinematographer Nick Morris, production designer Francesca Massariol, and costume designer Grace Snell, Pillion is poised to deliver a cinematic experience like no other.

With a stellar cast, an intriguing storyline, and a powerhouse production team, Pillion promises to be a groundbreaking exploration of love, identity, and the thrill of breaking free from societal norms. It’s about embracing who you are, no matter how wild or unconventional.

So buckle up, folks, because this is one cinematic journey you won’t want to miss!
