Earlier this year, Carmichael took home an Emmy Award for the writing of his critically acclaimed HBO comedy special, Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel, and earned an Emmy nomination for his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live.
Carmichael rose to fame back in 2014 after his breakout performance in the comedy film Neighbors. The same year, he released his first HBO stand-up comedy special, Love at the Store, directed by Spike Lee. In 2017, comedian Bo Burnham directed Carmichael’s second HBO special, Jerrod Carmichael: 8.
Carmichael then went on to co-create, co-write, produce and star in The Carmichael Show, a semi-biographical sitcom that aired on NBC for three seasons starting in 2015. The envelope-pushing series garnered nominations from both the GLAAD Media Awards and NAACP Image Awards.
In recent years Carmichael has created, directed, produced, and starred in multiple projects, which has helped solidify him as one of the most influential and multi-hyphenate talents in comedy.
The announcement of Carmichael as the 80th Golden Globe Awards host comes days before the HFPA announces this year’s nominations. Watch this space for the official announcement of the nominations.
