Award-Winning Queer Slasher Musical Prom Party Massacre Is Now Free to Watch Online

There are plenty of queer horror films out there, and there are plenty of movie musicals too, but it takes a very particular kind of creative chaos to throw both into a blender and come out with something that actually works. That’s exactly what Prom Party Massacre has been doing throughout its festival run, and now everyone gets the chance to join the party from home.

After making waves on the independent festival circuit over the past year, Prom Party Massacre officially premieres online today. The award-winning indie film is now available to stream for free on YouTube and Vimeo, giving horror fans, musical lovers, and anyone with a soft spot for unapologetically queer camp the perfect excuse to press play.

Directed by Jordan Gustafson and written by Philip Tice, Prom Party Massacre embraces the familiar setup of a classic slasher before gleefully turning it into something all its own. The story follows a gay high school student who hosts an after-prom party, hoping to finally win over the closeted captain of the football team. Instead of getting the romantic night he imagined, the evening takes a deadly turn as students begin turning up dead and the guests realize the killer may be someone in the room with them.

It’s a premise that wears its influences proudly while making space for queer characters to exist at the center of the chaos instead of the sidelines. Romance, comedy, musical numbers, blood-soaked kills, and plenty of camp all collide in a way that feels tailor-made for audiences who love genre films that refuse to take themselves too seriously while still delivering genuine queer representation.

Before making its online debut, Prom Party Massacre built an impressive festival résumé with more than thirty screenings across the United States and the United Kingdom. Along the way, it stopped at festivals including Portland’s Queer Screams Film Festival, CinePride, Buried Alive Film Festival, Nevermore Film Festival, Grimmfest in London, and Austin’s Ethereal Horrorfest, where it swept the awards at the inaugural Pride of Terror event. The film ultimately collected honors including Best Director, Best Short Film, Best Musical, Best LGBTQ+ Film, Best Editing, Best Lead Performance, Best Villain, and even Best Kill.

The reception from critics has been just as enthusiastic. Victims & Villains described the film as “a truly rare breed,” adding that its music “hits its audience with infectious enthusiasm.” Meanwhile, Macabre Daily praised it as “the perfect amount of camp-meets-genuine charm, served up with amazing musical and performance talent.”

Executive produced by David Magee (The Little Mermaid, Life of Pi, A Man Called Otto), the film stars Philip Tice, Ashley Campbell, Theo Tiedemann, Tommaso di Blasi, Julia Davo, Jake Ellsworth, and Miranda Dawson.

Queer horror continues to prove there’s plenty of room for bold ideas that push genre boundaries, and Prom Party Massacre is a perfect example of that fearless energy. If your ideal movie night includes catchy musical numbers, queer romance, outrageous camp, and a slasher with impeccable timing, your prom invitation has officially arrived.
