BOOTS Sneak Peek: Netflix Drops First Teaser and Poster for Queer Marine Drama
Welcome to boot camp, recruits! Ahead of its global premiere on Netflix on October 9, we’ve got our very first official teaser for BOOTS, the streamer’s upcoming comedic drama. This BOOTS sneak peek gives us a glimpse at the series’ opening episode, following Cameron Cope (Miles Heizer) from the moment he admits his life needs a change to his arrival at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. It’s a quick but effective teaser that captures the tone and rhythm of what’s to come: sharp, off-beat, and filled with heart and humor. Along with the teaser, Netflix also dropped the official poster for the show, giving us another taste of what awaits when BOOTS lands this fall.
BOOTS is an eight-episode, one-hour comedic drama that offers an irreverent, fresh take on the coming-of-age story. Set in the tough and unpredictable world of the 1990s U.S. Marine Corps—when being gay in the military was still illegal—the show promises to be both hilarious and poignant. We follow Cameron, a directionless and closeted young man, and his best friend Ray McAffey (Liam Oh), the son of a decorated Marine, as they step into an environment designed to break recruits down. Inspired by Greg Cope White’s memoir The Pink Marine, the series doesn’t just showcase the grueling reality of boot camp; it highlights what it meant to be queer in a world that actively tried to shut you out.

Created and co-run by Andy Parker (Tales of the City) with showrunner Jennifer Cecil (Umbrella Academy) and legendary executive producer Norman Lear, BOOTS is already stacked with powerhouse talent behind the scenes. The series takes the rough backdrop of the Marines and turns it into a story about identity, resilience, and finding family in the unlikeliest places. And for us, it’s especially exciting to see a show spotlighting queer experiences in a setting where they’ve historically been erased or silenced.
Of course, the ensemble cast is another reason to be hyped. Alongside Miles Heizer, the regular cast includes Max Parker as Sergeant Robert “Bobby” Sullivan, Vera Farmiga as Barbara Cope, Liam Oh as Ray McAffey, Cedrick Cooper as Staff Sergeant Marcus McKinnon, Ana Ayora as Capt. Denise Fajardo, Angus O’Brien as Thaddeus Beau Sterling Hicks, Dominic Goodman as Isaiah Nash, Kieron Moore as Nicholas Slovacek, Nicholas Logan as Sergeant Cary Wayne Howitt, Rico Paris as Santos Santos, and Blake Burt as John Bowman. Additional cast members include Brandon Tyler Moore, Zach Roerig, Anthony Marble, Joy Osmanski, Ivan Hoey Jr., Logan Gould, Jack Kay, Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson, Jonathan Nieves, and Brett Dalton.
This first BOOTS sneak peek is only a taste of what’s to come, but it’s already enough to make us circle October 9 in red on our calendars. With its mix of humor, grit, and unapologetically queer storytelling, BOOTS is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most exciting fall debuts, and we’re more than ready to lace up for the ride.
