The Irrepressibles Celebrate Pride with New Single ‘What I Am, Queer!’
With Pride parades sweeping across the globe tomorrow, we’ve been looking for the perfect song to ground us in the moment, something that speaks not just to celebration, but to the strength and softness that shape our queer experience. Enter What I Am, Queer!, the brand-new single from The Irrepressibles, arriving just in time to add some emotional depth to our Pride playlists.
Backed by lush orchestration and layered with Jamie Irrepressible’s haunting, expressive vocals, the track moves like a personal revelation. It speaks to the loneliness so many of us felt growing up, the fear we were taught to carry, and the healing we continue to seek. But it doesn’t stay in the dark, instead, it offers a vision of queer liberation rooted in pride, defiance, and self-love. What I Am, Queer! is the first taste of Yo Homo Deluxe, a reimagined and expanded version of The Irrepressibles’ 2024 album Yo Homo!, out August 29 via Of Naked Design Records. If the original album was a raw, sensual ode to queer life, then the deluxe edition promises to take us even deeper, offering new tracks and reworked moments that stretch the emotional and sonic boundaries Jamie has long been known for.
The Irrepressibles’ fourth album marked a bold new chapter for Jamie Irrepressible, one that traded restraint for vulnerability, and fused theatrical arrangements with a punk spirit. “I wanted to make a record specifically for the queer community,” Jamie has said, “to create a safe space where people feel they are being expressed.”
Now, with Yo Homo Deluxe, that space grows wider. This expanded edition isn’t just a bonus round, it’s a continuation of Jamie’s mission to reflect the full spectrum of queer experience through music that’s thoughtful, sensuous, and emotionally resonant.
The album’s release will be preceded by three new singles, starting with What I Am, Queer! and continuing on July 17 and August 18 with two new songs. It’s a steady lead-up to what promises to be another unforgettable release, one we’ll be returning to long after Pride month ends.
