Jinkx Monsoon Will Take Over Broadway’s Oh, Mary! This August

Booked, blessed, and Broadway-bound (again), Jinkx Monsoon is keeping her streak of theatrical triumphs alive and well. The two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner is a Broadway baby through and through, and this summer, she’s adding yet another must-see role to her ever-growing résumé. Monsoon will take over the lead in Oh, Mary! starting August 4, following her current run in Pirates! The Penzance Musical with Roundabout Theatre Company.

Announced during her appearance on Today on June 18, Monsoon’s limited engagement will run through September 27 at the Lyceum Theatre. She’ll be stepping in after the hilarious Tituss Burgess, who’s currently playing a six-week encore stint, succeeding 2025 Tony winner and Oh, Mary! creator Cole Escola, who took their final bow on June 21.

If you’ve somehow missed the Oh, Mary! buzz, let us catch you up: the play reimagines Mary Todd Lincoln as a cabaret-obsessed, martini-loving chaos gremlin spiraling toward rock bottom just before her husband’s assassination. Think period drama meets drag fever dream, and you’re in the right ballpark. The result? A queer comedy for the ages. Since its Off-Broadway debut at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, the show’s been extended multiple times and taken home a few well-deserved awards, including Outstanding New American Play and Outstanding Lead Performer for Escola at the Outer Critics Circle Awards.

Monsoon, who called the show “one of the best, funniest, most energizing things I’ve seen in my life,” is clearly thrilled to jump into Escola’s bloomers—literally. “To be invited to live in this playground for a time is not only an honor and a privilege,” she said in a statement, “but a lovely chance to showcase the writing talents of one friend, the directorial talents of another, and everything else that comes with this singular production.”

And honestly? We couldn’t think of a more perfect fit. Monsoon has long been one of our favorite queer performers to watch, both on stage and screen. Her theater chops are no joke, she’s slayed as Matron “Mama” Morton in Chicago, brought a twisted charm to Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, and continues to dazzle audiences on tour with BenDeLaCreme in their iconic holiday spectacular.

Oh, Mary! is currently scheduled to run through January 4, 2026, but if you’re hoping to catch Jinkx’s take on the unhinged First Lady, you’ll want to plan ahead. From August 4 to September 27, she’ll be lighting up the Lyceum with her signature blend of camp, talent, and chaos—and we can’t wait to see her shine.

So if you’re in NYC this summer, don’t miss your chance to see Jinkx Monsoon do what she does best: bring queer brilliance to Broadway.
