They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera finds a home at Netflix

New York Times Best Selling Young Adult novel They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera has been picked up by Netflix after what can only be hailed as an intense bidding war. In competition with four other networks, it was announced today that Netflix was successful in the final bid.

Chris van Dusen, most notably known for his work on Bridgerton, has signed on to co-write and executive produce the ever-popular teen series. Silvera’s novel has been attempting to find a home for its screen adaptation for quite some time though. Back in 2019, the project was acquired by J.J Abrahms and HBO Max, however, the project didn’t make it through to the Covid-19 struggle.

Ten months ago, it was re-acquired by Entertainment One, with Drew Comins and Creative One set to executive produce. Author Adam Silvera is also signed on to executive produce, as it Benito Antonio Ocasio – who we know more familiarly as Bad Bunny. And now the title has a home with the streaming giant Netflix.

Released in 2017, They Both Die at the End is a queer young adult story. It follows teenagers Mateo and Rufus, who at the onset of the novel, don’t know who the other is. Each of the boys receives calls from a company that predicts end-of-life scenarios and both of the boys decide to make the most of their last twenty-four hours left on earth. They decide to go through their last journey together – because why not? – and an epic adventure ensues.

Adam Silvera is no stranger to literary success, but this particular novel of his made history as the first young adult novel to reach number one on the New York Times Bestseller list that featured a Latinx lead character.

Information regarding casting or filming windows has not yet been released. Neither has any information about a projected release date. Watch this space as we wait for more information from Netflix regarding this exciting project.
