Hugh Grant talks Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and his gay role

We’re not sure about you, but we rocked up to watch Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery because we were told that Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) was getting spoused up in the form of a man in this installment. We had no idea who it was, as the whole thing was kept very much under wraps. So color us completely and delightfully surprised to see that Blanc was shacked up with non-other than Hugh Grant!

Up until now, Hugh Grant hasn’t really weighed in on the media frenzy surrounding the movie, but he has surfaced and he’s commenting all about it! Remember how we said that while the director had confirmed that Blanc is gay in the movie, the representation was less than the bare minimum?

Grant and Craig don’t even share a screen together, and confirmation of the exact nature of their relationship is never revealed in the film. Passersby wouldn’t have been laughed at for just assuming they were roomies.

Well, straight out of the horse’s mouth himself (no pun intended), Hugh Grant has officially confirmed that in the film he is married to the quirky, yet brilliant detective.

“It is true,” he told Collider. “I’m married to James Bond.”

“It’s the tiniest little moment.” he added, “I don’t really know why they wanted to do it but anyway, I thought Knives Out 1 was brilliant, and so yeah, I thought why not? I turn up for a few hours…”

Not too much else was said, as Grant was doing the interview with Chris Pine to promote something else.

Despite the fact that we loved Glass Onion, it was heavily pushed as a queer narrative. However, the scene was several seconds long, with no direct interaction between the two actors, no shared screen, and nothing else about Blanc’s queerness throughout the rest of the story.

If there is another sequel (Netflix please give us another one) we’d love to see Blanc and his husband yachting around Europe somewhere on holiday as they stumble into quirky and pesky crime for Blanc to solve. We’d like to know more about their backstory and have it be a part of the narrative, instead of an achoo that happened so fast folks barely noticed. Until then, we’ll sit here and dream.
