Emerald Fennell’s ‘Saltburn’ Unveils Its First Look

Emerald Fennell’s much-anticipated thriller, Saltburn, is finally giving fans their first look at Jacob Elordi and Barry Keoghan in the lead roles. Known for her work on Promising Young Woman, Fennell crafts a captivating narrative that delves into themes of privilege, obsession, and suspense, making it one of the most anticipated films of the upcoming fall season.

The film follows Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan), a university student at Oxford who stands apart from his privileged peers due to his modest background. However, his life takes a dramatic turn when he becomes infatuated with Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), whose enigmatic presence captivates those around him.

For some reason, Felix extends an invitation to Oliver to spend the summer at his family’s lavish estate, Saltburn, setting the stage for an enigmatic and enthralling story. And while the specific details of the film’s plot remain a mystery, Fennell has said that she drew inspiration from classic British gothic and romantic tales set in the opulent country homes of the elite.

Fennell’s reputation for boundary-pushing storytelling is well-established, and Saltburn seems to be no exception. The film promises to tackle controversial themes and deliver visceral, sometimes erotic moments that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on audiences.

Early test screenings have drawn comparisons to the classic The Talented Mr. Ripley, hinting at scenes of nudity and explicit content. And while the recently released teaser trailer gives little away about the extent of the queer elements in Saltburn, it does hint at the obvious tension between Felix and Oliver.

But don’t take our word for it, check it out for yourself in the teaser trailer below.

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including in addition to Keoghan and Elordi, Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Alison Oliver, Archie Madekwe, and Paul Rhys. Additionally, Carey Mulligan makes a return to collaborate with Fennell in a small yet significant role.
