Our Flag Means Death Canceled at Max After Two Seasons
It’s a somber day for all of us here at Q+ Magazine. It’s official, Our Flag Means Death has been canceled at Max after two seasons.
We’re not going to lie, the news of this cancellation has hit us hard. As passionate fans of the show, we’ve relished every moment it has given us, eagerly anticipating each weekly episode and sharing in the joy it brought us. Today, however, comes with a heavy heart as we bid adieu to this beloved series.
The sudden announcement of the show’s cancellation caught us by surprise. With its captivating storyline and stellar cast, we held out hope for a third and final season. Unfortunately, Max revealed today that our hopes for another installment have been dashed.
A spokesman for Max said in a statement, “While Max will not be moving forward with a third season of Our Flag Means Death, we are so proud of the joyous, hilarious, and heartfelt stories that creator David Jenkins, Taika Waititi, Rhys Darby, Garrett Basch, Dan Halsted, Adam Stein, Antoine Douaihy, and the entire superb cast and crew brought to life. We also thank the dedicated fans who embraced these stories and built a gorgeous, inclusive community surrounding the show.”
Darby and Waititi led the series as Steve Bonnet and Blackbeard respectively, with other cast members including Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon, and Leslie Jones.
David Jenkins, the brains behind the show and its showrunner, shared his sadness on social media about not continuing this wild adventure. He said, “I’m very sad I won’t set foot on the Revenge again with my friends, some of whom have become close to family. But I couldn’t be more grateful for being allowed to captain the damn thing in the first place.”
You can read the rest of his statement in the post below.
But you know what? Even in all this collective sadness we’re feeling, there’s a silver lining. Just minutes after the news broke, the hashtag #RenewAsACrew started making waves on X and other social media platforms, a testament to the show’s impact. It’s heartening to witness the outpouring of support and love for a series that touched so many lives.
Saying goodbye to Our Flag Means Death is hard, no doubt about it. But the memories, the laughs, and the sense of togetherness it brought us will stay with us forever. While the sails of this adventure have been folded, the spirit of the show lives on in the hearts of its fans, leaving behind a legacy that won’t soon be forgotten.
