Young Royals S2X02: The Wilmon cold war begins!

The first episode of Young Royals season 2 concluded with Wilhelm (Edvin Ryding) on the brink of a jealous breakdown over the fact that Simon (Omar Rudberg) was spending time with Marcus (Tommy Wättring). This time, Young Royals S2X02 kicks off with tension in the air. If you haven’t watched, we recommend having projectiles on hand to throw when things get too much!

It’s Sara’s (Frida Argenton) birthday and the event reminds her that she is not like the other girls at her school. They give her an expensive pair of riding Jodhpurs, only to be gifted a much cheaper version by her family. Sara remarks that she already received a better pair *insert eye-roll here at the ungratefulness of this child* and causes tension at home.

Mostly though, we’re focused on Wilmon, and there is definitely trouble in paradise here folks. Although they sit together in class, Wilhelm is unnecessarily snappy at Simon, which causes Simon to snap right back.

Here is everything you need to know about Young Royals S2X02

The struggles of Wilmon

Wilmon are not okay, fam, and neither are we.  Wilhelm continues to battle the queen (Pernilla August) for the right to live as he wants, and the woman just keeps fighting back. She is a manipulative old sod that takes advantage of Wilhelm’s stupidly love-sick heart.

First, she tries removing him from Hillerksa for acting out against the Crown, but when he absolutely refuses to comply with her demands, she switches gears into straight-up manipulation. She tells Wilhelm that he must continue to hide his true self and his true love from the world until he is 18. She tells him that once he comes of age she is willing to chat about his situation and “work something out.”

For the love of all things royal and holy, the woman is a batty liar! It’s clear from the expression on her face that she has no intention whatsoever of ever acquiescing to Wilhelm’s desires, but the poor young dude is not privy to her face at that time. This conversion takes place on the phone and we want nothing more than to shake Wilhelm when he swallows her words without question.

What’s more, Wilhelm takes this to Simon as a reason why they should hide their relationship so they can be together. Understandably, Simon rejects the idea and tells Wilhelm that he isn’t going to wait for him for two years.

Oof, fam. Just oof

The two of them are clearly caught in this game of cat and mouse and at present, neither one seems really able to see the other person’s perspective. Under normal circumstances, we’d never advocate that an individual wait for another person to get their mess together for two freaking years, but this is no ordinary situation.

We’re not sure that Simon understands that Wilhelm is fighting against an institution that is hundreds of years old and typically deeply rooted in gross homophobia. To his credit, Wilhelm is doing everything that he can at sixteen years old to make his desires known. We understand why Wilhelm might think that Simon would understand his predicament. However, we also understand why Simon is outraged that Wilhelm would even ask him to wait. It’s a mess. Everything is just a whole ass mess.

When they’re both voicing what they want and need, but neither side lines up to the other, how on earth do they reconcile such a situation?

Excuse us while we go drink our weight in Pepto Bismol because yeeeeesh, Wilmon has given us a stomach ache.

F%#king Marcus

*Throws computer at the television screen*

Marcus is here, he’s queer, and he’s ready to f%#k things up. Marcus makes no effort to hide the fact that he’s into Simon. Simon, desperate to bury his feelings – which seem completely unattainable at this point – for Wilhelm, throws himself into the situation with the newcomer.

Spoiler alert: we yelled obscenities into the void for many long, tense moments during this episode.

Simon goes to Marcus’ place to hang out. There are no parents at Marcus’ house (we repeat, there are no parents at Marcus’ house), and almost no time is wasted before Simon is physically throwing himself at Marcus and they’re locking lips.

Marcus doesn’t know Simon like we do though, and we see that look on Simon’s face. Even though Simon is the one who initiates the kiss, the pain wafts off of him. Marcus is not Wilhelm, and Simon wants Wilhelm most of all.

The homosexual urge to shake the hell out of Simon and tell him to get out of there is strong in Young Royals S2X02, fam.

The only thing that stopped us from completely breaking the television in two is that Simon and Marcus don’t advance to the dance with no pants. At least not yet, anyway.

Shout-outs

Wilhelm continues his silent quest to destroy August (Malte Gårdinger) and his position at Hillerska. August loses his place as prefect after a sneaky campaign on Wilhelm’s part, and the kid is replaced by another. We’re here to publicly support any activity which results in the crushing of August, anywhere, anytime. Good job Wilhelm. More of this, please!

We also want to give a shout-out to the writers of the show for making sure that we understand that Wilmon are still stupidly nuts about each other, despite the cold war that seems to be playing out between them right now.

Simon steals Wilhelm’s orange sweater and literally shoves his face into it, inhaling his scent before he puts it on his body, and Wilhelm, despite the sass he throws Simon’s way at the beginning of the episode, tries to help Simon cheat his way through a physical activity that could impact his grades. If Simon doesn’t conquer this task, his grades could drop and his scholarship at Hillerksa depends on this not happening.

Both of them are constantly giving each other puppy eyes and it’s an assault on the senses every time they do. They are gay for each other (even if they haven’t defined Wilhelm’s sexuality), your honor, and they’re so in love that it almost hurts to watch.

Trash can moments

Sara gets intel that Felice (Nikita Uggla) was the one who informed Wilhelm that August was responsible for releasing the Wilmon sex video. Sara runs to August immediately and shares this new information with him, instead of telling her brother, yet again. Sara’s quest for popularity and her desire to fit in among the rich and famous continues to interrupt her loyalty to her own brother and y’all, we have no time for garbage behavior like that, especially when Simon is so good to her, and does what he can to protect her in life. Simon uprooted his own life and happiness and left his previous school so Sara could go to Hillerska, and this is what he gets in return?

So in Young Royals S2X02 we are putting Sara in the bin again! That makes two episodes in a row that we’ve assigned her residence in the can.

Wilhelm also has a brief visit to the trash can in this episode when he checks Simon’s phone for proof that Simon and Marcus are a thing. No baby boy, just no. It doesn’t matter how jealous you are, it doesn’t matter how much you love him, Simon’s phone is his private space and you are not entitled to look through it – we don’t care that you’re royalty, or who you are.

The cold war continues fam and we are in Young Royals hell.
