Red, White & Royal Blue Special Hardcover Edition: They’re getting married!
We have known for some time now that Casey McQuiston’s New York Times Bestseller Red, White & Royal Blue was getting an update. Details of the special hardcover edition dropped today on socials and fans are losing their minds. While a sequel to the ever-popular queer romance seems unlikely at this point, the special hardcover edition does allow fans to step back into the world of their beloved Henry and Alex and get at least a little closure.
In case you have no idea what we are talking about, Red, White & Royal Blue is the story of Henry and Alex. The novel is a political AU of sorts. The President of the United States is a white woman from Texas who married a Mexican American man, also from Texas. They had a couple of mixed-race babies, got divorced, she got remarried and now her mixed-race, blended family is living in the White House while she runs the country.
Alex, her son, is 21 and following in his mother’s footsteps. He is pursuing a career in politics, and is about to graduate from Georgetown. While he is living in the White House Alex has a sexual awakening and falls in love with the one and only Prince of England. It’s a hilarious cross-cultural, cross-political saga that will leave you laughing, absolutely bawling, and feeling all the very many FEELS.
In case it was unclear, we are OBSESSED.
When the story ends, Henry and Alex are still so very young and they have their whole lives ahead of them. There are many unanswered questions and even more possible scenarios that could dictate how their lives turn out. While not a sequel, the special edition hardcover looks like it’s going to give fans some of the closure they’re so desperately seeking.
According to the Red, White & Royal Blue Updates Twitter account, the special edition hardcover, slated for release on October 11, 2022, will feature the following things:
- A collectors edition cover
- Two different foiled case stamps on the front and back covers
- Ribbon bookmark
- New 4-color illustrated and papers (front and back)
- Brand new 16-page bonus chapter!
Per the graphic released on the Updates page, the new bonus chapter takes place six years after the ending of Red, White & Royal Blue. Alex and Henry are moving out of the Brownstone Henry bought in Brooklyn and they’re making preparations for their wedding. Yep folks, you heard right! Alex and Henry are getting hitched!
The chapter is written from Henry’s point of view while he remembers some of the pivotal, but also some of the small moments that got he and Alex to where they are at in the current day. According to the graphic, we’ll also be able to figure out what all our other fave characters have been up to as well!
The special edition hardcover release may not be a sequel, but we’ll take it!
Red, White & Royal Blue is also currently being made into a feature film by Amazon Studios. Featuring Nicholas Galitzine as Henry and Taylor Zakhar Perez as Alex, the movie is currently being shot in London. No news about a potential release date has been announced as yet.
