‘Slo Pitch’ Trailer Introduces Crave’s New Queer Softball Comedy
Apparently, Crave is determined to give us what we want: more queer shows. And we’re not complaining. After bringing us Heated Rivalry, the streamer is getting ready to introduce us to another very queer ensemble, this time swapping hockey for beer league softball and gays for lesbians with Slo Pitch, a new comedy that looks like it’s going to bring plenty of chaos, romance, friendship, and queer joy to our screens.
And to prove it, Crave has officially released the Slo Pitch trailer while also announcing that the new original series will premiere on Friday, September 25, with its first two episodes dropping at once. And judging by what we’re seeing in the trailer, the Brovaries are about to become our newest favorite queer found family.
Based on the acclaimed 2020 short-form series of the same name, Slo Pitch follows the Brovaries, a lovable queer beer league softball team that has its eyes firmly set on a championship season. The series will unfold across 10 episodes, with two new episodes arriving every Friday, giving us plenty of time to get attached to this gloriously chaotic group.
The series follows Coach Joanne Pico, played by Jess Salgueiro, whose season gets considerably messier after her longtime girlfriend dumps her, and then promptly joins a rival team. Because apparently getting your heart broken wasn’t enough, Joanne now has to watch her ex compete against her while trying to lead the Brovaries to victory.
Naturally, things don’t exactly go according to plan. The team’s season will involve rivalries, unexpected romances, sponsorship drama, increasingly outrageous fundraising schemes, and, of course, plenty of post-game beers. But while winning the championship is the goal, Slo Pitch seems just as interested in the relationships these women build with each other along the way. We’re talking queer friendship, community, heartbreak, messy dating, and the kind of chosen family that makes a beer league team feel like so much more than a group of people who happen to play softball together.

And the cast is stacked. Salgueiro stars alongside Karen Knox as Boris, Gwenlyn Cumyn as Ann, Chelsea Muirhead as Sasha, Emma Hunter as Barb, Lane Webber as Lee, Khadijah Roberts-Abdullah as Zari, Amanda Cordner as Mel, and Emily Hampshire as Leanne. Knox and Cumyn also serve as executive producers, writers, and stars on the series, alongside a creative team that includes Slo Pitch creator J Stevens, Katie Ford, Jane Cooper Ford, and the production companies Shaftesbury, Boss & Co, and PAGEBOY Productions.
Yes, that PAGEBOY Productions. The production company founded by Elliot Page is behind the series, with Page and Matt Jordan Smith serving as executive producers. Slo Pitch also marks Bell Media’s first project with PAGEBOY following the companies’ co-development deal announced last year.
And Crave isn’t keeping the Brovaries exclusively to Canada. The series has also been acquired by Sky in the UK and Ireland, Sky New Zealand, and HBO Max in Australia through distribution agreements secured by Sphere Abacus, a Bell Media company. Canadians will get first dibs on the Brovaries this September, while our international queer siblings won’t have to wait forever to join the party. We’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more international release news and hoping plenty more countries join that list.
From the trailer alone, Slo Pitch looks like the kind of queer comedy we can happily make room for in our weekly viewing schedules. It’s messy, it’s silly, it’s full of queer women, and it seems very interested in letting its characters be ridiculous, romantic, competitive, flawed, and deeply connected to one another.
We can’t wait to meet this queer softball team. We’re ready to step up to the plate!
