First Look at Tennis Romance Forty Love Starring Paul Kircher and Romeo Beckham
Studiocanal has unveiled a first look at Forty Love, an upcoming queer tennis romance that explores the complicated line between rivalry and attraction. The film stars Paul Kircher (The Animal Kingdom) and Romeo Beckham in what marks Beckham’s acting debut.
Directed by renowned fashion photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti in his feature directorial debut, Forty Love centers on Sacha Gallo (Kircher), a rising tennis superstar who has spent years training under the watchful eye of his father with one goal in mind: winning a major title in Paris.
Everything changes when a charismatic new rival enters his life. Played by Beckham, the newcomer challenges not only Sacha’s ambitions on the court but also his understanding of himself. According to the film’s synopsis, Sacha finds himself facing an opponent unlike any he has encountered before: love.
The first-look image keeps things simple, focusing solely on Kircher and Beckham as they share a lingering glance. It’s a subtle introduction to the film, but one that immediately draws attention to the relationship at its center—a promising sign for a story that appears ready to explore queer desire alongside the pressures of competition and ambition.
Joining Paul Kircher and Romeo Beckham in the cast are Guillaume Canet, Benjamin Voisin, and Catherine Deneuve. The film’s score comes from musician 070 Shake and composer Johan Lenox.
Carlotti co-wrote the screenplay with Gaëlle Macé, whose previous credits include Rebecca Zlotowski’s A Private Life. Producers Hugo Sélignac and Paco de Bary describe the project as a sensual and moving coming-of-age story that examines both the demands of high-level athletics and the feelings that exist beneath the surface.
Studiocanal’s head of international sales for film and television, Chloé Marquet, said the film’s exploration of desire, competition, and identity is expected to resonate with audiences around the world.
While much of the early conversation surrounding Forty Love has focused on Beckham’s screen debut, the film itself looks poised to offer something especially intriguing for LGBTQ+ audiences: a romance that places queer desire at the center of a high-stakes sports story. If the first image is any indication, Forty Love could be one to keep firmly on our radar.
Variety first shared the exclusive first-look image and details from the upcoming film. You can find the story here.
Forty Love is scheduled to open theatrically in France on Nov. 25, with Studiocanal handling worldwide sales.
