Dan Levy’s Big Mistakes Trailer Teases a Hilariously Chaotic Crime Saga Ahead of Its Premiere

The Big Mistakes trailer has officially dropped, and it looks like Dan Levy is ready to bring us another delightfully chaotic story—this time blending family drama, crime thrills, and the kind of offbeat humor that has become his signature.

Netflix has released the first Big Mistakes trailer, confirming that the new comedy series will premiere on April 9, 2026. While fans knew a trailer was arriving today, the actual date had already been sneakily teased earlier this week through a marketing stunt that quickly got people talking online.

It all started with a mysterious billboard that appeared on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, displaying nothing but a diamond necklace spelling out the numbers “4.9.26.” No explanation, no branding, just a sparkling clue. Later that evening, Netflix shared a video on social media showing the necklace seemingly being stolen from the billboard through an augmented reality effect.

The next day, the mystery took another turn when selfies surfaced of Dan Levy and several members of the cast wearing the necklace themselves, revealing that they were behind the playful “heist.” Now, with the Big Mistakes trailer finally out in the world, everything makes sense.

The series centers on Nicky (Levy) and his sister Morgan (Taylor Ortega). The two siblings find themselves in way over their heads after attempting a theft meant to help their ailing grandmother, only to accidentally entangle themselves with organized crime. What follows is a string of increasingly dangerous assignments that the pair are hilariously unprepared to handle. Somehow, despite their complete lack of expertise, they keep stumbling their way deeper into the criminal underworld.

If the Big Mistakes trailer is any indication, the show thrives on that perfect mix of tension and absurdity. The stakes may be high, but the comedy seems to come from watching these two deeply chaotic siblings try (and often fail) to navigate situations far beyond their skill set. And of course, with Levy leading the series both in front of and behind the camera, the show also carries that unmistakable queer sensibility that fans have come to appreciate in his work.

Levy serves as creator, showrunner, star, and executive producer on the eight-episode series, which marks his latest television project following the global success of Schitt’s Creek. He co-created the show with Rachel Sennott, and together they’ve assembled a cast that includes Taylor Ortega, Laurie Metcalf, Abby Quinn, Boran Kuzum, Jack Innanen, Elizabeth Perkins, Mark Ivanir, Jacob Gutierrez, Joe Barbara, and Darren Goldstein.

Speaking about the project to Netflix’s Tudum, Levy expressed his excitement about the team and the story they’ve built together. “I’m so excited to be bringing this truly chaotic family story to life with Netflix,” Levy says. “I’m thrilled with the team we’re building both behind the scenes and in front of the camera. Taylor Ortega is going to become a household name, and it’s been my life’s mission to get to call Laurie Metcalf ‘mother.’ Looking forward to getting to share this with everyone.”

From what we’re seeing in the Big Mistakes trailer, “chaotic family story” might actually be the understatement of the year. Between questionable decisions, escalating criminal antics, and a cast that looks ready to fully embrace the absurdity of the premise, the series already feels like it could be another memorable entry in Levy’s growing body of work.
