Tyler Perry’s A Madea Homecoming gets just a little bit gay
This February Tyler Perry’s Madea returns to Netflix with Tyler Perry’s A Madea Homecoming for another round of neighborhood shenanigans. This marks the twelfth film in the franchise and this installment tells the story of Madea (Tyler Perry) as she brings her family together again to celebrate her great-grandson’s college graduation. However, the celebratory moment hits a halt as hidden secrets and family drama threaten to destroy the happy return.

Tamela Mann, David Mann, and Cassi Davis Patton all return with Perry to reprise their roles, joined by Gabrielle Dennis, Brendan O’Carroll, Brandon Black, and Isha Blaaker.
But why has Tyler Perry’s A Madea Homecoming gotten just a little bit gay? Because Brandon Black’s character, Tim, is the first openly gay character to join the Madea franchise. Yes, folks! We’re getting queer rep!
While Brandon Black’s character is gay in the film, Black is also a member of the LGBTQ community himself. Tyler Perry’s A Madea Homecoming is not Black’s first bull ride at the rodeo and he has some notable roles under his belt. Here is what we know about the fabulous Brandon Black.
Personal history
A California native, Black was born and raised in San Diego. During his teenage years, he modeled and took acting classes and then campaigned for his family members to pitch in and help him pay to join the Screen Actors Guild. He took classes at Santa Monica College in Los Angeles, while simultaneously training at the Upright Citizens Brigade.
At UCB, Black trained with exceptionally accomplished actors and teachers such as Brad Greenquist and Saxon Trainor.
Black currently lives in Los Angeles with his rescue pitbull Malik. Very into music, when Black isn’t working he is playing guitar, and attending music concerts and festivals. He likes to travel, and spend time with family and friends.
Work history
Black is no stranger to critically acclaimed television projects. His most notable role to date is the character of Kordell Washington on the critically acclaimed Netflix series Dear White People. Black was a series regular on the show for all four of its seasons.
Black has also appeared in other popular television shows such as Shameless, 13 Reasons Why and Insecure.
Brandon Black is personally invested in projects that showcase Black and LGBTQ characters. Tyler Perry’s A Madea Homecoming is the perfect addition to his work portfolio. We can’t wait to see what Tyler Perry does with this latest installment of this franchise.
