The Official Overcompensating Trailer Is Here — And So Are Some Seriously Star-Studded Guest Announcements

Today, Prime Video dropped the official Overcompensating trailer, giving us our first look at Benito Skinner’s hilarious and heartfelt new comedy series. And trust us, it looks like queer chaos in the best possible way. Skinner, who created and stars in the show, is bringing us a college-set story that’s loud, messy, deeply personal, and very, very gay.

But wait, that’s not all. Alongside the Overcompensating trailer, Prime Video also unveiled a new round of guest stars, and this cast list is absolutely stacked. We’re talking Lukas Gage (Companion), Megan Fox (New Girl), Bowen Yang (The Wedding Banquet), Matt Rogers (No Good Deed), James Van Der Beek (Varsity Blues), Didi Conn (Harlan Coben’s Shelter), Rachel Matthews (Upgraded), Danielle Perez (The Night Agent), Boman Martinez-Reid (Made for TV with Boman Martinez-Reid), and Yasmine Sahid — all set to appear in the series.

These new names join an already killer lineup, including previously announced stars Wally Baram (Shrinking), Mary Beth Barone (Black Mirror), Adam DiMarco (The White Lotus), and Rish Shah (Ms. Marvel). And if that’s still not enough to get you hyped, the guest star list also features Andrea Martin, Connie Britton, Kyle MacLachlan, Kaia Gerber, Julia Shiplett, Tommy Do, Alexandra Beaton, Claire Qute, Elias Azimi, Maddie Phillips, and yes, Charli XCX herself. (She’s also serving as an executive music producer, btw.)

Recurring roles? We’ve got those too with Holmes, Corteon Moore, Owen Thiele, Nell Verlaque, and Tomaso Sanelli rounding out the cast.

With this level of talent both in front of and behind the camera and such a strong focus on queer storytelling, we’re seriously counting down the days until this one drops. The Overcompensating trailer gives us just a taste of what’s to come, but if you’re anything like us, you’ll be rewatching it to catch every familiar face.

The series, produced by A24, Strong Baby, and Amazon MGM Studios, will premiere all eight episodes on May 15, streaming globally in more than 240 countries and territories via Prime Video. Created, written, and executive produced by Benito Skinner, Overcompensating follows Benny (Skinner), a closeted ex-football player and homecoming king, as he befriends Carmen (Wally Baram), a high school outcast on a mission to reinvent herself in college. With help from Benny’s sister (Mary Beth Barone) and her campus-legend boyfriend (Adam DiMarco), the pair stumble through hookup disasters, questionable drinks, and identity crises in a world that expects them to have it all figured out.

It’s queer, it’s funny, and it’s chaotic.

With May 15 just around the corner, we’re already counting down the days until we get to binge Overcompensating with our besties. Until then, we’ll be rewatching that trailer like it’s homework.
