Warrior Nun 2X01 – ‘Galatians 6: 4-5’ reaction review

If you’re not watching Warrior Nun what are you even doing with your life? As the title suggests, the show centers around a group of badass women that present themselves to the world as nuns (and some of them actually are nuns). This binge-worthy production will have you in a chokehold. Season 2 dropped on Netflix earlier this month and the nuns are taking a stroll into the land of the lady gays. This definitely caught our attention, and to celebrate the sapphic direction the show is moving in, we’re going to release a reaction review for each new episode, starting with Warrior Nun 2×01.

There is a lot happening in this episode and as Warrior Nun 2×01 opens, viewers find Ava (Alba Baptista) and Beatrice (Kristina Tonteri-Young) in Switzerland hiding from Adriel (William Miller) and his followers. They’ve shed their habits (well, Beatrice has anyway) and are moonlighting as bartenders as they try and blend in. News about Adriel has spread near and far and it’s making Beatrice nervous.

At the end of season 1, it was revealed that Beatrice is a lesbian, however no confirmation that Ava also bats for the same team was provided. Despite this, it’s unquestionable that the two certainly finished out the season with sparks flying between them, and as Warrior Nun 2×01 kicks into gear, the chemistry between these two ladies is palpable.

Even though they’re supposed to be blending in, Beatrice has taken on the role of Ava’s trainer and the pair are working together closely as Ava learns how to use and harness the powers given to her by the halo. Ava is going to have to face off with Adriel at some point, that much is inevitable, and Beatrice wants to make sure that Ava is in the best shape possible when it does. Ava, motivated by guilt, believes that the whole mess they find themselves in is all her fault. So she trains, and works hard, to right whatever wrong she feels responsible for.

It’s blindingly obvious that Beatrice has The Feelings™ for Ava. It’s written all over her face. Ava walks into a room and Beatrice turns into a lost little puppy. However, whether Ava also returns The Feelings™ remains to be seen at this point. It’s clear that Ava has mad respect for Beatrice and the girl definitely feels a connection with her, but is the love she holds for Beatrice that of a romantic nature? One can only hope.

There is a moment though, where Ava gives Beatrice a look when they’re doing shots, and we’re pretty sure it’s not an innocent, wholesome look. When the two are drinking together and they’re grooving out on the dancefloor, Ava definitely lets her eyes linger over Beatrice’s body for three dirty seconds too long for it to be considered a platonic glance. Nothing else comes of the moment though, so we’re expecting that whatever transpires between them will be of the slow-burn variety.

In Warrior Nun 2×01 everyone has their panties in a twist over Adriel. Everyone thinks the dude is bad news and is rallying to take him down. But, no one is working together and there seem to be many different ploys happening to bring about his end. If everyone would just work together instead of against each other, Adriel’s defeat would be an easier task.

It’s this mission that finds Beatrice and Ava in the company of Miguel (Jack Mullarkey) as they attempt to infiltrate the Firstborn Children, which is an organized group of Adriel’s followers. Except y’all, we don’t trust any of the men in this show, and our spidey senses tell us that maybe this Miguel dude is also one of the bad guys.

Tag yourself: we’re Beatrice in this situation interrogating Miguel because she clearly doesn’t trust him. And we have to say, we tend to agree with her here. The sapphic urge to shake Ava and the way she runs headfirst into danger is real in Warrior Nun 2×01. And the ladies wouldn’t even be in this situation with Miguel if Ava was less impulsive. We don’t like it at all.

But that’s the beautiful thing about this coupling. Where Beatrice is level-headed, responsible, and dependable, Ava is driven by passion, impulsivity, and her emotions. The juxtaposition of these two characters serves to create a palpable tension that lures you in hook, line, and sinker. Nothing about them should make sense, yet in the Warrior Nun universe, avatrice is the only thing that actually does make sense.

Meanwhile in other news, at the end of season 1, Mary (Toya Turner) went down in a blaze of glory during a fight and no one knows if she is dead or alive. However, as this episode begins, Vincent (Tristan Ulloa) tells Lilith (Lorena Andrea) that she is alive and he knows where she is.

But y’all, we already know that the men in this universe can’t be trusted, and Vincent uses the guise of Mary’s survival to attempt to trap Lilith. But Lilith is the most badass of all these warriors and she cannot be contained. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and y’all, Lilith has been scorned in the very worst way.

Everything about this universe is so badass. The strong female characters, the groups of women banding together to overcome evil and take on the men of the world are nothing short of incredible. Beatrice and Ava are both formidable characters that have so much depth and complexity, and we are here for every second of the avatrice ship!

We showed up for the lady gays but we’re sticking around for absolutely everything. The lore, the set design, the writing, it’s all just brilliant. Everyone everywhere needs to watch this show. If you ask us, a life without avatrice is a life not worth living!
