The Last of Us Season 2 Trailer Drops—Let the Heartache Begin!
With the premiere of The Last of Us Season 2 just around the corner—Episode 1 drops April 13, with the remaining six episodes rolling out weekly until May 25—it was only a matter of time before Max gifted us the official trailer. And that time has finally come.
Last night, following a highly anticipated SXSW panel featuring cast members Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Gabriel Luna, Young Mazino, and creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the new trailer made its grand debut. And let’s just say, we are not emotionally prepared.
For those unfamiliar, The Last of Us, based on the iconic Naughty Dog video game, follows Joel (Pedro Pascal), a hardened survivor navigating a world ravaged by a fungal infection that turns people into monstrous creatures. His mission? Escort Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a teenage girl immune to the infection, across the U.S. to a group hoping her immunity could be the key to a cure. However, at the end of Season 1, after realizing that creating the cure would mean Ellie’s death, Joel made the decision to save her—killing everyone in sight and keeping the truth of what really happened that day a secret from Ellie and the rest of the world.

Set five years after the events of Season 1, the new season promises to dive into the aftermath of that decision. And let us tell you, this show is about to take us on an even more intense and emotional journey. If you haven’t played the game, trust us when we say: you’re not ready for what’s coming.
Unlike the first teaser from September last year, which introduced Catherine O’Hara as Joel’s therapist, this official trailer brings the focus back to our beloved characters. Ellie, Joel, and even Tommy (Gabriel Luna) are front and center, alongside newcomers Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) and Dina (Isabela Merced), in what can only be described as an action-packed, high-stakes thrill ride. The tension is palpable, the stakes are impossibly high, and our heroes have everything to lose. But don’t just take our word for it—check out the trailer below.
Honestly? We’re not ready for this new season. Not even close. If there was ever a time to start stocking up on tissues, it’s now.
Alongside Pascal, Ramsey, O’Hara, Dever, and Merced, Season 2 will also star Rutina Wesley as Maria, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the series remains a co-production with Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog.
April 13 can’t come soon enough, and we’re ready to be completely wrecked by the emotions, the action, and the heartbreak this season is sure to bring. We’ll be counting down the days.
