Stream, Share, Support: Cassie Taylor’s ‘DEADNAME (Find You)’ Is a Song With a Cause!
Hey, folks! We’ve got some super exciting news—Cassie Taylor just dropped her latest single and music video, DEADNAME (Find You), on June 6, and it’s a total game-changer. Featuring the amazing BIPOC trans artists Cuee and Dante Foley, this track isn’t just a bop—it’s also got a cause! All the proceeds from streams and social shares go straight to benefiting trans and nonbinary communities. How cool is that?
DEADNAME (Find You) is way more than just another song. It’s a powerful anthem of solidarity and support for trans and nonbinary folks. This upbeat western disco ballad tells the story of a trans man on a journey toward self-love. With driving disco beats and killer instrumentation from trans drummer Dante Foley, the song’s all about self-acceptance, liberation, and embracing your true self. And let’s not forget Cuee’s dynamic rap verses that add some serious power to the track.
Cassie wrote this song back in 2022 after she came out publicly. She shared, “Storytelling and songwriting have always been a huge passion of mine. I wanted to use that creativity to generate more visibility for the LGBTQIA+ community. I have the deepest respect and admiration for members of the trans and nonbinary communities who choose to live authentically.
“Watching my friends embrace their true selves was a big part of me coming to terms with my own sexuality. We all need to actively advocate for things like gender-affirming care so everyone can feel safe and at home in their body. I’m hoping this song can inspire conversation and encourage others to live their truth.”
And the music video? Pure fun! Cassie involved her queer community in the visuals, making sure to showcase queer joy and love. They filmed it at a local Kansas City queer event called ‘Queer Bar Takeover’ during their Cowboy Carter party. The crowd’s Western and disco vibes fit the track perfectly. Cassie said, “Involving my queer community in the visuals for the track was so important to me. I wanted to showcase queer joy and love.”
Cassie has teamed up with Point of Pride, a nonprofit that provides trans people with access to life-changing, gender-affirming health and wellness services. Half of the song’s proceeds will be donated to the organization, which will use the funds to offer telehealth services through Folx and Plume and to purchase gender-affirming shapewear from trans-owned companies like gc2b, Origami Customs, and urBasics. The other half of the proceeds will go to Cuee and Dante Foley.
So, every time you play, download, or share this track, you’re making a real difference in someone’s life. DEADNAME (Find You) is not just a song—it’s a beacon of hope, advocating for inclusivity, equality, and dignity for all. Now, let’s talk a bit about Cassie Taylor in case you don’t know her. Cassie is a queer, BIPOC/bi-racial creative, producer, and community organizer. At just 16, she started touring as a bassist and vocalist with her father, Trance Bluesman Otis Taylor. But in 2014, she took a break from the music scene for nearly a decade. Now she’s back and better than ever, creating music from a place of total liberation. Cassie says, “I’m not hiding who I am anymore. I came out publicly as queer in 2022, and the songs I’m writing and producing now stem from a place of total expression and authenticity.”
Point of Pride was founded by the folks at Point 5cc, a clothing company by and for trans people. Since 2011, Point 5cc has been donating part of every order to an Annual Transgender Surgery Fund and running one of the largest international chest binder donation programs. The demand for support grew so much that they formed Point of Pride in 2016. Since then, they’ve awarded over $2 million in financial aid and provided gender-affirming support to over 21,000 people worldwide.
So, if you want to make a difference, just stream DEADNAME (Find You) on your favorite platform. Music has always been a way to help, but with this song, Cassie’s taking it to a whole new level. We absolutely love and applaud that. The world needs more people willing to share their art and help heal the world with it.
