Prime Video Drops First Look and Premiere Date for Benito Skinner’s ‘Overcompensating’

After announcing just last month that Prime Video had ordered Benito Skinner’s Overcompensating to series from A24, the streaming service wasted no time in getting us hyped. Yesterday (March 12), they released the first-look images from the comedy series and announced the premiere date. Yes, you read that right—we’ve got a premiere date, and it’s sooner than we expected. The eight-episode season is set to drop on May 15, streaming on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Overcompensating is a college-set ensemble comedy that follows Benny (Skinner), a closeted former football player and homecoming king, as he navigates freshman year with his new bestie, Carmen (Wally Baram), a high school outsider determined to fit in at any cost. Along the way, they get some guidance (for better or worse) from Benny’s older sister (Mary Beth Barone) and her campus-legend boyfriend (Adam DiMarco). Between disastrous hookups, way too much-flavored vodka, and some truly questionable fake IDs, the show promises a hilarious and deeply personal look at the ways we all overcompensate while trying to figure out who we really are.

The cast is stacked with talent, featuring Wally Baram (Shrinking), Mary Beth Barone (Black Mirror), Adam DiMarco (The White Lotus), and Rish Shah (Ms. Marvel). And that’s just the beginning—recurring guest stars include icons like Connie Britton and Kyle MacLachlan, alongside Kaia Gerber, Julia Shiplett, Tommy Do, and many more. Even Grammy-nominated pop queen Charli XCX is on board as an executive producer and executive music producer, which has us very excited to hear what the show’s soundtrack will bring.

Created, written, and executive produced by Benito Skinner, Overcompensating also has Scott King as showrunner and an impressive list of executive producers, including Jonah Hill, Matt Dines, and Ali Goodwin for Strong Baby.

With this first look, the hype is officially real. And since Prime Video is moving fast, we’re keeping our eyes peeled for the trailer, so stay tuned! In the meantime, check out the first-look images of Overcompensating below.
