Pride 2025: A Q+ Celebration!

June 5

Prime Target

Apple TV+’s Prime Target is a taut, high-stakes thriller that brings mathematical intrigue to the forefront. The series follows Edward Brooks (Leo Woodall), a brilliant but socially withdrawn postgraduate student at Cambridge whose discovery of a prime number pattern suddenly makes him a threat to global digital security. What begins as theoretical research quickly spirals into a dangerous game of espionage, turning Edward into, well… a prime target.

What we especially love is how the show integrates Edward’s queerness into the story without making it a dramatic focal point. His identity is treated as a given, refreshingly authentic for a genre that’s often dominated by straight leads. Add in NSA agent Taylah Sanders (played by Quintessa Swindell), and you’ve got a sharp, suspenseful series with an emotional core. With slick visuals and a genuinely clever premise, Prime Target proves that queer characters deserve space in every genre—yes, even the math-driven thrillers.

Hunt on Dark Waters by Katee Robert

If your Pride reading list could use a little romance, a little magic, and a lot of bisexual pirate chaos, then Hunt on Dark Waters is the adventure you’ve been waiting for. This fantasy romance from Katee Robert throws readers headfirst into a vividly imagined realm where sirens sing, sea monsters lurk, and queer pirates rule the waves. At the center of the chaos is Evelyn, a modern-day witch who finds herself transported into a magical oceanic world after an encounter gone very, very wrong—and straight into the arms (and ship) of a dangerous and alluring pirate captain named Bowen.

This isn’t just your typical enemies-to-lovers fantasy—though yes, there is plenty of heat. Hunt on Dark Waters is a wildly fun, genre-bending romp that celebrates queer desire and autonomy with flair. There’s swordplay, sapphic energy, dark enchantments, and the kind of found family that’ll make your heart swell. It’s sexy, fast-paced, and full of heart—a perfect storm of everything we love in a Pride Month read.

Where to buy? Hunt on Dark Waters is available to purchase at all reputable booksellers.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001)

Before Rent had us belting in the shower and long before Glee introduced mainstream America to musical angst, Hedwig and the Angry Inch was already doing the work, and doing it unapologetically queer. This cult classic, based on the off-Broadway musical of the same name, follows Hedwig, a glam rock singer from East Berlin with a heartbreaking past, a killer wardrobe, and a voice that absolutely shreds. After a botched gender reassignment surgery leaves her with the titular “angry inch,” Hedwig embarks on a cross-country musical tour-slash-existential journey to reclaim her story and her stolen songs.

John Cameron Mitchell (who also directed) gives a powerhouse performance as Hedwig, delivering a character so raw, funny, and charismatic that it’s impossible not to fall in love. The film pulses with electric energy, from its animated sequences to its unforgettable soundtrack—Wig in a Box, Midnight Radio, and of course, The Origin of Love, which still gets us choked up. It’s weird and messy and loud, just like queer life itself. And if you’ve ever felt like you were living between worlds, this film will hit hard, in the best way.

Where to watch? Hedwig and the Angry Inch is available to rent or purchase on most major platforms, including Apple TV and Prime Video.
