Pride 2025: A Q+ Celebration!

June 19

Supernova

Supernova, written and directed by Harry Macqueen, is a quiet stunner, a romantic drama that sneaks up on you with its emotional force. Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci star as Sam and Tusker, a long-time couple taking a road trip through the English countryside after Tusker is diagnosed with early-onset dementia. Their camper van becomes both a vehicle and a metaphor: a space where love, fear, memories, and impending loss collide.

But this isn’t just a tearjerker about illness,  it’s a love story in the truest sense. The film captures what it means to show up for someone, especially when it’s hard. Firth and Tucci’s real-life friendship radiates in every scene, giving their characters’ bond a lived-in warmth. The dialogue is sparse, the visuals stunning, and the heartbreak, quiet but devastating. Supernova doesn’t scream; it lingers.

Where to watch? Supernova is available to stream on Prime Video, Apple TV, and other major streaming platforms.

AJ and the Queen

RuPaul trades the main stage for the open road in AJ and the Queen, a short-lived but fiercely memorable Netflix dramedy. When Ruby Red (RuPaul) gets conned by her shady boyfriend, she sets off on a drag tour across America, only to find herself saddled with a surprise travel companion: AJ (Izzy G.), a smart-mouthed 10-year-old with nowhere else to go. Together, the mismatched duo encounter misfits, found families, and drag clubs in every corner of the country.

At first glance, it’s a campy, road-trip romp, but underneath the wigs and rhinestones, AJ and the Queen offers something deeper. It’s about resilience, acceptance, and the power of performance as survival. The show is unafraid to tackle issues like homelessness, addiction, and queer identity with heart and humor. And of course, there’s a killer lip-sync in every episode. Even though it only got one season, this show is a love letter to the queer community and everything it survives.

Where to watch? AJ and the Queen is available to stream on Netflix.

Love the World or Get Killed Trying by Alvina Chamberland

Alvina Chamberland’s debut English-language novel is a searing act of literary rebellion. Love the World or Get Killed Trying fuses autofiction with poetic rage, following a trans woman named Alvina as she moves through Europe in search of connection, safety, and some kind of meaning. From Berlin’s queer clubs to the windswept landscapes of Iceland, the novel captures the visceral reality of being trans in a world that constantly misreads, fetishizes, or erases you.

But this book isn’t just about trauma, it’s also about refusal. Chamberland writes with ferocity and tenderness, unspooling a narrative that’s deeply personal but universally resonant for anyone who’s felt othered. The story wrestles with the limitations of identity, the messiness of desire, and the question of whether liberation lies in being seen or in burning it all down. It’s raw, lyrical, and brimming with truth.

Where to buy? Love the World or Get Killed Trying is available to purchase via Bookshop.org, Gay’s the Word (UK), and major online booksellers.
