A fave here at Q+, today Johnny Manuel released his second EP titled Blue and premiered the music video for his single, What Am I. With a career spanning two decades, Johnny Manuel has proven himself not only as a gifted singer but also as a passionate musician and a prolific songwriter.

Johnny’s artistic odyssey, from singing in a church choir to opening for the likes of *NSYNC and competing in Eurovision, has been nothing short of remarkable. But his latest adventure, Blue, undoubtedly marks an evolution in his musical journey.

Johnny was involved in the production of Blue, which is reflected in the unique sound identity that was achieved in the 5 tracks that make up the EP. As Johnny shares, “I am proud of where I am now that I am on the other side of this project. Through the process of creating it, I understand myself more and more, and now this is just the beginning of my journey.”

Blue stands out with its inclusion of live instruments on nearly every track. This addition brings depth and emotion, drawing inspiration from legendary artists like Tina Turner and Sade. The EP’s latest single, What Am I, co-written by Johnny Manuel and Thomas Harvey, is a fearless exhibition of Johnny’s vocal prowess. Produced by T. Priestly, mixed by Elijah Marrett-Hitch, and mastered by Kristian Montano, the song is a testament to Johnny’s musical versatility.

You can experience What Am I here!

The accompanying music video for What Am I is a visual masterpiece, featuring Johnny in a hotel room as he goes on a journey of understanding the complexities of self-love and moving on. The video perfectly complements the song’s minimalistic beauty and Johnny’s soulful sound. Johnny elaborates, “To me, the video for ‘What Am I’ evokes the emotion of the song perfectly. Does not having you here change what I am? With me alone in a space, exploring whether or not I am able to love myself wholly, and completely independent of anyone else.”

Blue also includes previous singles like Molotov and End Of The Night, each with their unique charm and energy. As we shared with y’all when it first came out, Molotov celebrates moving forward and embracing new beginnings, free from the burden of the past, while End Of The Night sets the stage for an unforgettable night of love and dance, driven by live strings and drums.
