Knives Out 3 Announced: Benoit Blanc Returns for His Most Dangerous Case Yet!

Netflix just dropped some exciting news for all the mystery lovers out there: the whodunnit franchise Knives Out is getting a third installment! Yes, you read that right. Our favorite detective, Benoit Blanc (played by the brilliant Daniel Craig), is set to return in his most dangerous case yet in 2025.

While details are still scarce, we do know the new film will be titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Blanc will be unraveling a brand-new murder mystery in an as-yet-undisclosed setting, surrounded by a new colorful cast of suspects. And, of course, the film will once again be written and directed by the talented Rian Johnson.

Now, you might be wondering why we’re promoting this film as an LGBTQ+ publication. Although it was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, in the second installment, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, where Blanc heads to Greece to peel back the layers of intrigue surrounding tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) and an eclectic group of disruptors, we learn something exciting about the famed detective: he’s part of the rainbow team! Yeah, he gay, your honor!

During the promotion of Glass Onion, Rian Johnson himself confirmed that Craig’s character, Benoit Blanc, was “obviously” gay and that we’d get to see his live-in partner on screen. When the film was released, it was revealed that Blanc’s partner was played by none other than Hugh Grant.

Although the representation was less than the bare minimum in the film with Grant and Craig not even sharing a screen together and no confirmation of the exact nature of their relationship, we were thrilled to see a beloved character being part of the LGBTQ+ community. Of course, we’re still rooting for more in this third installment.

Back when we first talked about Blanc’s queerness, we said that if Netflix gave us a third film, we’d love to see Blanc and his husband yachting around Europe on holiday, stumbling into quirky and pesky crimes for Blanc to solve. So, maybe our dreams could come true, but only time will tell what Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery has in store for us.

Until then, catch the announcement in the video below and stay tuned for more updates!
