First look at Bradley Cooper’s ‘Maestro’

Netflix has just released the trailer for Maestro, Bradley Cooper’s second film as a director. On this occasion, the actor not only takes the lead behind the scenes of the project but also steps into the shoes of the cultural icon Leonard Bernstein.

Maestro, which will also feature Carey Mulligan, Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, Sarah Silverman, Josh Hamilton, Scott Ellis, Gideon Glick, Sam Nivola, Alexa Swinton, and Miriam Shor, will narrate the profound relationship between Leonard Bernstein (Bradley Cooper) and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein (Carey Mulligan). The film is presented as a contemplation of life, art, and the emotional complexities inherent in the human experience.

Leonard Bernstein was an influential American composer, conductor, pianist, and educator whose career spanned the 20th century. He is renowned for his significant contributions to classical music and his pioneering efforts in bridging the gap between various musical genres. Bernstein’s most famous works include the iconic musical West Side Story, which reimagined Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in a modern urban setting, as well as his operetta Candide.

In addition to his musical accomplishments, Bernstein’s personal life also garnered attention due to his openly acknowledged bisexuality. He navigated a complex and at times controversial relationship with his sexual orientation, which was uncommon for his era.

Despite potential challenges, Bernstein’s professional achievements and public advocacy helped lay the foundation for increased acceptance and comprehension of LGBTQ+ individuals in the arts and beyond. His legacy reaches beyond his music, encompassing his role as a pioneer and advocate for social change in the realms of both music and identity.

As per Netflix’s official logline, “Maestro is a towering and fearless love story chronicling the lifelong relationship between Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein. A love letter to life and art, Maestro at its core is an emotionally epic portrayal of family and love.”
