Euphoria Season 3 Update: Is This Good News or Bad News?

We’re back with news about Euphoria that’ll have everyone talking! Today, HBO and Max Content Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys confirmed that Euphoria Season 3 is officially happening, with production set to start in January 2025. The new season will consist of eight episodes, but we’re honestly still deciding how we feel about this update.

Now, don’t get us wrong—we’ve been huge fans of Euphoria since day one. This show broke all the molds with its unapologetically bold storytelling, raw themes, and complex LGBTQ+ characters, and it’s always been more than just another TV series to us. But after the off-screen chaos that clouded Season 2, we’re questioning if bringing the show back was the best call. So, rather than good or bad news, let’s just say it’s an update for those of us who were wondering what would happen to the show after so much back-and-forth.

For those who need a little context, here’s why Euphoria‘s future was so up in the air: in late 2023 and early 2024, series creator Sam Levinson pitched some big ideas for Season 3, including a five-year time jump and a storyline with Rue (played by Zendaya) as a private investigator. HBO hit pause, wanting the new season to align creatively with what fans loved about the first two seasons. And the waiting game only got more intense as cast members were allowed to take on other projects, not to mention that some announced their departure from the show, like Barbie Ferreira who played Kat. Also, Angus Cloud, who played the unforgettable Fezco, tragically passed away in July 2023.

On top of all that, the cast’s skyrocketing careers further fueled speculation that Euphoria might be finished. Zendaya just signed on for her first Christopher Nolan film and is likely reprising her role as MJ in Spider-Man 4, both set to film in 2025. Jacob Elordi, now in high demand, is also booked for another Emerald Fennell project after Saltburn, Wuthering Heights

Hunter Schafer, who stole the show in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, has multiple projects lined up. Sydney Sweeney, now known for The White Lotus, Reality, and Anyone But You is set for several new roles as well. Other key stars like Alexa Demie (Waves), Storm Reid (The Last of Us), and Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy) all have busy schedules, so getting everyone back on set seems like a long shot. But according to Bloys, it’s still happening: “We are shooting Euphoria,” he said at an HBO/Max press event. “Nothing’s changed… I have read the scripts. We’re happy. We’re moving ahead.”

So, while we’re curious to see what a third season of Euphoria could bring, we’re skeptical all the main players will actually be able to come back for it. We’ll be keeping an eye out and will let you know as soon as there’s more news to share.

What do you all think? Are you excited about the potential of a third season, or do you think Euphoria should’ve ended on a high note? Let us know on our socials, and stay tuned for more updates!
