Both Proposes To Newyear: Gay Thai Actor To Marry His Boyfriend
In light of the recent changes to the law in Thailand regarding the legalization of same-sex marriage, popular Boy’s Love (BL) actor, Both Nattapong Chinsoponsap publicly proposed to his long-term boyfriend, Newyear Kitiwhut Sawutdimilin
Newyear posted the proposal to his TikTok account, celebrating the joyous moment.
On June 26, 2024, Newyear shared a post on TikTok with the caption ‘I said Yes” The video depicts the couple entering a room filled with red roses as Both drops to one knee and asks for Newyear’s hand in marriage. Newyear captions his response with, “I said yes from the first day we met.”
The pair were cast in a BL production together back in 2012. The show, titled Top Secret Together depicts five same-sex couples holding onto a variety of secrets. The drama documents how they work through and solve their problems, and which couples eventually prevail.
Presenting as an onscreen couple in that show, fiction soon manifested into real life for the young men, who formed a romantic relationship of their own and have been together ever since. Newyear and Both haven’t exactly been quiet about their relationship over the years, with each of them posting regularly to their social media accounts and sharing content of their lives together.
On June 18, Thailand finally legalized same-sex marriage, affording the country’s queer community marriage equality, and equal rights regarding inheritance and adoption of children. The bill is expected to take 120 days to take effect before any marriages can legally be performed.
So while Newyear accepted Both’s proposal, the couple will have to wait just a little while longer before they can officially and legally tie the knot. Marriage equality for the Thai community has been a long time coming through, so once the bill is finally enacted, it’s expected that many Thai LGBTQ+ couples will rush to the altar, so to speak.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
