‘Anora’ Trailer Drops: Sean Baker’s Latest Hits Theaters October 18!

We’re beyond excited to share that the trailer for Anora, a new comedy-drama directed by Sean Baker, just dropped—and it’s a must-watch! Some of you may recognize Baker’s name from Tangerine, a groundbreaking film that put trans women of color front and center, capturing their struggles and joy with authenticity. With Anora, Baker brings us another unique perspective, this time focusing on a young sex worker navigating a whirlwind romance.

The film follows Anora (Mikey Madison), an exotic dancer from Brooklyn, who unexpectedly marries the son of a Russian oligarch (Mark Eidelstein). What seems like a dream come true quickly spirals when his powerful family gets wind of the marriage and flies to New York to break it up. The plot promises drama, comedy, and a critique of class and privilege, which are Sean Baker staples. Mikey Madison stars in the titular role, bringing raw emotion and energy to a character who’s ready to defy the odds.

Since premiering at Cannes on May 21, 2024, and snagging the prestigious Palme d’Or, Anora has been the talk of the town, making history as the first American film to win since The Tree of Life (2011). The film also had a slot at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2024, and at the New York Film Festival as part of the Main Slate. It was also selected in Icons at the 29th Busan International Film Festival to be screened in October 2024. With such a strong debut, we can’t wait for its official theatrical release on October 18, courtesy of Neon.
