Watch Emma Mackey Heat Things Up in the Hot Milk Trailer
The first full-length Hot Milk trailer is finally here, and let us tell you—it’s already giving everything we want in a summer release. Steamy, sun-drenched, and queer to the core, Hot Milk stars Sex Education’s Emma Mackey in a role that feels tailor-made for our screens (and our hearts).
Directed by Rebecca Lenkiewicz in her feature debut, Hot Milk is a 2025 British drama based on the acclaimed 2016 novel by Deborah Levy. The film had its world premiere at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival this past February, and it’s now set to hit UK cinemas in July, just in time to heat up our summer watchlists.
Set against the oppressive heat of Almería, Spain, the story follows Sofia (Emma Mackey), a young woman traveling with her mother Rose (Fiona Shaw), who suffers from a mysterious illness and is confined to a wheelchair. While Rose seeks treatment from a questionable local healer, Dr. Gómez (Vincent Pérez), Sofia starts to find her own path, one that leads her straight into the orbit of Ingrid (played by the always magnetic Vicky Krieps), a free-spirited traveler who quickly becomes more than just a vacation fling.
Let’s be real, Hot Milk sounds like exactly our kind of film: queer, mysterious, emotionally charged, and set in a landscape so beautiful it almost aches. If you don’t believe us, go ahead and watch the Hot Milk trailer below. It’s sultry, haunting, and packed with the kind of lesbian longing that gets under your skin and stays there.
Beyond its swoony romance and slow-burning sexual tension, Hot Milk dives deep into themes of maternal control, personal liberation, and the fine line between healing and hurting. It’s a coming-of-age story, a mother-daughter drama, and a sapphic summer love story all wrapped into one.
The film is produced by Christine Langan, Kate Glover, and Giorgos Karnavas, and it’s a true international effort, co-produced by Film4, Bonnie Productions, Heretic, and Head Gear Films. On the executive production team are Farhana Bhula, Ollie Madden, Daniel Battsek, Richard Mansell, and several others, including author Deborah Levy herself.
Between the powerhouse cast, the evocative setting, and the tender but charged lesbian storyline at its heart, Hot Milk looks poised to be one of the standout queer films of 2025. Trust us, you’ll want to keep this one on your radar.
