Wanda Sykes returns to Netflix

Award-winning comedian Wanda Sykes is heading back to Netflix for another stand-up comedy special. The special, directed by Linda Mendoza, was filmed in February 2023 at the Miller Theater in Philadelphia and is slated for global release on Netflix’s streaming platform on May 23, 2023. Titled “I’m an Entertainer”, Sykes is expected to give one heck of a performance.

This time around, Sykes is using the microphone to talk about the challenges of raising Gen Z teens to the dilemmas of being a liberal in a hypercharged political climate. Sykes, renowned for her social commentary, is expected to deliver her insightful and ferocious wit and candor audiences have come to know and love.

When Sykes took the stage back in 2019 for her previous Netflix special, Trump was still in office. The special, titled “Not Normal” delved into the complexities of living in America during the Trump presidency, being a black lesbian married to a white French woman with two white kids, and all the things in between. Not Normal was nominated for two primetime Emmy awards.

Wanda Sykes is no stranger to the world of comedy in the United States. She cut her teeth as a writer on The Chris Rock Show back in the 90s (for which she did actually win a Primetime Emmy), and then in 2004, was named as one of the funniest people in America by Entertainment Weekly. Her portfolio of highly praised work has only continued to grow from there.

Apart from her stand-up career, more recently Sykes can be found on Netflix’s original series The Upshaws alongside Kim Fields and Mike Epps. You can also find her on HBO in The Other Two and on Paramount+ in The Good Fight

Fans have been waiting for her upcoming Netflix special “I’m an Entertainer” for some time now. So grab your friends, prepare some popcorn, and open a bottle of your fave wine on May 23 to see what Wanda Sykes has to say this time around. Watch this space for more information as it unfolds.
