The Umbrella Academy Season 3: First look at the action-packed new season!
The wait is almost over and a new apocalypse season of The Umbrella Academy is almost upon us! Weeks before its official release, Netflix has unveiled not only a set of new posters finally showing us the Umbrellas and the Sparrows side by side, but yesterday we got our first look at what’s in store for the Hargreeves siblings after the events of the season two finale.
Created for Netflix by Steve Blackman and based on the comic book of the same title by Gabriel Bá and Gerard Way, The Umbrella Academy follows a dysfunctional family of super-powered adoptive siblings who reunite to solve the mystery of their father’s death and the threat of an impending apocalypse.
In the second season of the hit show, the Hargreeves siblings – scattered around the 60s in Dallas, Texas – had to face some pretty intense issues on their quest to head back to their original timeline. Between racial riots, the Kennedy assassination, and the never-ending persecution of the Commission, they went through it all while searching for their way back home and trying to prevent yet another apocalypse.
The last episode of the season saw the Hargreeves finally returning to what would be their original timeline, only to discover that 1) The Umbrella Academy never existed and instead their father, Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore), founded the Sparrow Academy, and 2) that this one is led by none other than an alternative version of Ben (Justin H. Min). Yes, that Ben, Ben Hargreeves – once dead and now very much alive. *insert shocked expression*
But let’s take a look at what Netflix has teased about the next season, shall we?
First Look at the Umbrella Academy Season 3
Back in March, Netflix shared the first teaser trailer of the season and announced alongside its release date – June 22nd – that Euphoria’s young actor Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton would be joining the cast. His role hasn’t been revealed yet, so we’re still not sure if he will have superpowers or not, but it won’t be long before we find out.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 also sees the return of Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, David Castañeda, Aidan Gallagher, and Colm Feore, alongside series newcomers Justin Cornwell, Britne Oldford, Jake Epstein, Genesis Rodriguez, and Cazzie David as the members of The Umbrella and The Sparrow Academy respectively.
According to Netflix’s official summary, the new season will focus on the Hargreeves siblings navigating this new alternate universe and trying to join forces with the Sparrows to once again save the world. The season’s official summary reads:
“After putting a stop to 1963’s doomsday, the Umbrella Academy returns home to the present, convinced they prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed this godforsaken timeline once and for all. But after a brief moment of celebration, they realize things aren’t exactly (okay, not at all) how they left them. Enter the Sparrow Academy. Smart, stylish, and about as warm as a sea of icebergs, the Sparrows immediately clash with the Umbrellas in a violent face-off that turns out to be the least of everyone’s concerns. Navigating challenges, losses, and surprises of their own – and dealing with an unidentified destructive entity wreaking havoc in the Universe (something they may have caused) — now all they need to do is convince Dad’s new and possibly better family to help them put right what their arrival made wrong. Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?”
