The Ultimatum: Queer Love Season 2, Part 2 — The Drama, The Decisions, and All the Delicious Lesbian Chaos

Now that all episodes of The Ultimatum: Queer Love Season 2 are out in the world, it’s time to spill the tea. We’re talking who ended up with who, what went down behind those emotional trial marriages, and which couples actually made it out of this wild experiment intact. So fair warning: this review contains spoilers. If you haven’t finished the season yet, feel free to check out our spoiler-free review of the first batch of episodes and come back when you’ve caught up.

As we mentioned in Part 1 of this review, The Ultimatum: Queer Love Season 2 brought the sapphic drama in full force. And while we initially kept names out of it to preserve the magic of the show intact, it’s time to get specific.

After The Choice, the new trial couples were: AJ and Marie, Pilar and Kyle, Bridget and Ashley, Haley and Magan, Mel and Dayna, and Marita and Britney (who ended up paired basically because there was no one else left). And let’s just say, those personalities together? Dangerous. In classic lesbian fashion, things got real fast. Haley and Magan wasted no time jumping into the physical side of their trial marriage, as did Mel and Dayna, whose chemistry was undeniable from day one.

Some of the others struggled more—missing their original partners, feeling guilty, or spiraling into existential panic once they realized this experience might actually cost them their person. It opened the door to a lot of overdue self-reflection. And with it came the emotional baggage that always shows up when you realize the person you came here with might leave with someone else.

Once the trial marriages ended and the couples reunited with their original partners, tensions were sky-high. As we said in our first review, some of these couples were barely hanging on. The second trial marriages were intense, emotional, and if we’re being honest, full of growth. But listen, we don’t know if we could get past some of the things these ladies did. Like, we understand “embracing the experiment” and all that, but just because you “broke up” for the purpose of a reality TV show doesn’t mean those years of love disappear overnight. Even among lesbians, okay? We have a reputation, but we don’t get over people that fast.

The final three episodes of The Ultimatum: Queer Love Season 2 wrap up the season with one episode devoted to the last weeks of the second trial marriages, another to Ultimatum Day, aka Decision Day: the moment each couple must decide whether to get engaged, break up, or start fresh with someone new. And one final episode that serves as a reunion. So let’s start with decision day.

As y’all know, we had our bets in the office and genuinely thought only three couples would make it: AJ and Britney, Haley and Pilar, and Bridget and Kyle. But surprise surprise—five of the six couples left the show engaged to their original partners: AJ and Britney, Haley and Pilar, Bridget and Kyle, Dayna and Magan, and Mel and Marie. Only Ashley and Marita called it quits.

Were some of those proposals heartfelt? Sure. Did some feel more like obligations wrapped in a sparkly bow? Also yes. But hey, love wins… right?

Now, here’s where things really heat up: the reunion episode, filmed a year after the show’s original tapping. Everyone’s back, looking good and extremely ready to air their grievances. And because they’ve all watched the season by now, the gloves come off. No secrets, no lies, just raw reactions, and a lot of unresolved lesbian rage.

Here’s the status update of the engaged couples:
✅ AJ and Britney — still engaged
✅ Haley and Pilar — still engaged
✅ Bridget and Kyle — still engaged
✅ Dayna and Magan — somehow still engaged (no shade, but we were never rooting for y’all)
❌ Mel and Marie — broken up, and very much not on good terms

Mel and Marie’s post-show fallout is possibly the most intense of the group. Marie shows up furious and not shy about it, snappy from the start and picking fights. To be fair, she’s not wrong to be hurt. By this point, everyone knows what really went down during the trial marriages. Marie watched the scenes between Mel and Dayna, and it stings. In episode 9, just before the final ultimatums, we saw Mel reunite with Dayna and question if she was making a mistake by proposing to Marie. It felt like she was hoping Dayna would tell her to stay, to choose her instead. We fully expected that reunion to turn into a late-stage switcheroo. But it didn’t.

Instead, Mel went ahead with the proposal, and let’s be real, it felt like she did it because she had to, not because she wanted to. And when something starts from that place, it’s usually doomed.

But they weren’t the only ones to bring the drama. Ashley and Marita—who broke up during the show—blew up at the reunion in one of the season’s most chaotic moments. When host JoAnna Garcia Swisher asked if they had spoken since the experiment, the situation escalated fast. Accusations of infidelity, betrayal, and heartbreak flew across the room. At one point, Marita told Ashley she hated her. Ashley had to walk off set to compose herself. It was messy, raw, and extremely real. And yeah, we ate up every second of it.

Here’s the thing about The Ultimatum: Queer Love. Reality TV often gets written off as mindless entertainment, and in some ways, sure, it is. It’s fun. It’s dramatic. It’s bingeable. But it’s also a fascinating social experiment. These shows hold up a mirror to the way we love, fight, break down, and try to build something new. They expose toxic patterns, force honest conversations, and remind us how fragile and complicated human connection really is. That’s powerful stuff, even when it comes with wine glasses, awkward toasts, and awkwarder kisses.

We genuinely hope Netflix renews The Ultimatum: Queer Love for a third season. We’re more than ready to meet a new group of queer couples brave (and wild) enough to test their love in this emotional crucible. Until then, we’ll be rewatching this one, and maybe processing some of our own emotional baggage along the way. Because this show? It’s brutal. And we love it.
