The Second Season of The Sandman Finally Has a Release Date
Ever since Netflix announced that the second season of The Sandman would also be its last — and that it’d be dropping sometime this year — we’ve been not-so-patiently waiting for an exact date. Well, the wait is over. Today, Netflix finally revealed via the show’s official social media accounts that the second season of The Sandman will premiere this July. But that’s not all, it’s coming in two parts.
Volume One (six episodes) will arrive on July 3, with Volume Two (five episodes) following closely behind on July 24. So, yes, we’re getting all of Dream’s final journey in one month. The announcement came alongside the release of the first official trailer, plus a handful of brand-new production stills that give us a glimpse of the drama, magic, and emotional chaos to come.
In the second season of The Sandman, Dream of the Endless (Tom Sturridge) — following a deeply emotional reunion with his family — finds himself facing one impossible decision after another. With his realm in jeopardy and the waking world teetering on the edge, Dream must reckon with his past mistakes and attempt to make amends. But seeking forgiveness isn’t easy, especially when you’re up against gods, monsters, mortals, and some very old enemies. This final season promises a full-circle conclusion to Dream’s epic arc, bringing Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed DC comic series to its long-awaited end.
As always, the cast is a standout. Alongside Sturridge, we’ll see returning stars like Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Donna Preston, Vivienne Acheampong, Stephen Fry, and Gwendoline Christie, plus fan-favorite Mason Alexander Park. Also joining the ensemble are Esmé Creed-Miles, Adrian Lester, Barry Sloane, Patton Oswalt, Jenna Coleman, Ferdinand Kingsley, Indya Moore, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Razane Jammal, Ruairi O’Connor, Freddie Fox, Clive Russell, Laurence O’Fuarain, Ann Skelly, Douglas Booth, Jack Gleeson, Steve Coogan, and many more.

There’s no denying that The Sandman has resonated deeply with queer audiences, not just because of its incredible cast, but thanks to its fluid, layered storytelling that blurs binaries and embraces all things otherworldly.
As we head into this final stretch, there’s a lot to look forward to, even as the excitement is naturally tempered by the ongoing conversation surrounding the show’s creator Neil Gaiman, who was accused of sexual misconduct. While this understandably complicates how many of us engage with the series, we also want to uplift the work of the diverse cast, crew, and creative voices who’ve poured their hearts into this final season.
The second season of The Sandman represents years of collaborative artistry, and out of respect for them, we’re looking forward to seeing how their vision comes to a close.
The two volumes of the second season of The Sandman will be available to stream exclusively on Netflix on July 3 and July 24. Follow us on X and Instagram for all queer stuff!
