The Sandman: It’s Time to Return to the Dreaming! First Official Look at Season 2!
Last week, Netflix closed out its annual Geeked Week with a surprise we’ve all been dreaming of (pun intended): our first official look at Season 2 of The Sandman! From Sept. 16-19, Netflix’s Geeked Week celebrated its biggest global fandoms with exclusive news, exciting drops, and live events, all leading up to this moment—the release of a behind-the-scenes video straight from the set of The Sandman Season 2.
The sneak peek features showrunner Allan Heinberg, director Jamie Childs, and, of course, The Sandman stars Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Death) and Tom Sturridge (Dream aka Morpheus). In the video, Sturridge reveals, “At the start of Season 2, Dream is in a place of rebuilding.” He adds that Dream is determined to reflect on his past and deal with the consequences in a way that will shake things up. Sturridge goes on to explain, “Now that we know who Dream is and the world he exists within, it’s possible to open up, and Season 2 definitely does that.”
But let’s be real—what we’ve all been waiting for is a closer look at the Endless family. In Season 1, we got to meet Dream, Death, Desire (Mason Alexander Park), and Despair (Donna Preston). However, we’ve been left eagerly awaiting the rest of the crew: Destiny, Delirium, and The Prodigal. Earlier this year, back in May, Netflix announced that Adrian Lester would portray Destiny, Esmé Creed-Miles would bring Delirium to life, and Barry Sloane would embody The Prodigal.
And now, in this behind-the-scenes footage, we finally catch a glimpse of them together! As Sturridge notes, “One of the most thrilling things about this season is, for the first time, having the siblings of the Endless together in one room. Seeing this extraordinary family exist onscreen together is going to be unforgettable.”
If that wasn’t enough to get us hyped, the video also reveals some new faces. We get a peek at the Norse gods—Thor (Laurence O’Fuarain), Loki (Freddie Fox), and Odin (Clive Russell)—as they attend a “banquet” thrown by Dream himself. Heinberg describes it as a gathering of all the deities, gods, and fairies, setting the stage for what promises to be an epic event.
While details about Season 2 remain scarce, we do know that it will cover the Season of Mists storyline from the comics. In this arc, Lucifer (played by Gwendoline Christie) shocks everyone by abdicating control of Hell and handing Dream the key to its gates. The key’s possession causes a frenzy, as countless immortals vie for Dream’s favor. We can only imagine the wild ride this storyline will take us on!
Though Netflix hasn’t confirmed an official release date yet, it announced that Season 2 will arrive in 2025, and we’re already counting down the days. But enough of our chit-chat—go ahead and enjoy the first official look at Season 2 with this behind-the-scenes video below!
