The Irrepressibles SXSW Show Will Bring Queer Indie Swagger to Austin

If there’s one thing we love, it’s when unapologetically queer artistry takes center stage, and this March, The Irrepressibles are doing exactly that. The genre-defying project led by Jamie Irrepressible has officially announced a show at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, and we already know it’s going to be one of those life-changing sets.

Mark your calendars for March 17, folks. While the venue is still to be confirmed, the energy is already locked in. The Irrepressibles will be bringing a 30-minute set packed with the biggest tracks from Yo Homo!, their groundbreaking queer indie album that has been making waves for its bold, sensual, and emotionally raw sound.

And if you’ve been following this era, you know Yo Homo! isn’t just an album. It’s a declaration.

Written, composed, and produced by Jamie himself, the record marked a deliberate shift into something more urgent, more sexually candid, and more direct in its celebration of queer identity. Fusing indie rock, punk edges, orchestral flourishes, and queer nightlife textures, the album feels like a space carved out specifically for us—for desire, vulnerability, and liberation to coexist loudly and proudly.

“I wanted to make a record specifically for the queer community,” Jamie shared, explaining that the goal was to create a safe space where people feel seen and expressed. And honestly? That intention pulses through every track.

Last summer, the project expanded that vision with a deluxe edition of Yo Homo!, adding new material and alternate versions that deepen its radical embrace of sensuality and emotional truth. It’s queer indie rock with teeth: theatrical, erotic, symphonic, and punk-rooted all at once.

Speaking about the upcoming Texas show, Jamie said they’re excited to bring “the swagger, joy, and queer abandon” of Yo Homo! to their US fans at SXSW, performing the album’s biggest tracks in a high-impact half-hour set. There’s also hope for a broader US tour in the near future once their new album is out, and we’ll absolutely be ready.

For those who may have first discovered The Irrepressibles through earlier work like Most Beautiful Boy (that was part of the soundtrack to Netflix’s hit series Young Royals), In This Shirt, or Two Men in Love, this new chapter hits differently. It’s not subtle. It’s not coded. It’s explicitly, joyfully queer.

SXSW has long been a platform for boundary-pushing artists, and this year, that spotlight will shine on a project that continues to reshape what queer indie music can sound and feel like.

We’ll be watching closely as more details drop. Austin, get ready.
