The 2024 Dorian TV Awards: Celebrating the Best in LGBTQ+ Entertainment

This past Monday (August 12), GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics revealed the winners of the 2024 Dorian TV Awards, and we’re thrilled to share the highlights with you. The Dorian Awards are prestigious accolades in the realms of film, television, and Broadway/Off-Broadway, handed out by GALECA, an association founded in 2009 as the Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association.

GALECA represents a diverse group of professional journalists and critics who regularly cover movies, TV, and stage productions for outlets across the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and more. With around 500 members, including those on its advisory board, GALECA recognizes the very best in entertainment, with a special focus on LGBTQ+ representation through its various categories.

Leading the winners this year was Max’s Hacks, which scooped up four awards, including Best TV Comedy and Best Written TV Show. The show’s stars also shone brightly, with Jean Smart taking home Best TV Performance — Comedy and Hannah Einbinder winning Best Supporting TV Performance — Comedy. Right behind Hacks was AMC’s Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, which earned three awards: Best TV Drama, Best LGBTQ TV Show, and the newly introduced Best Genre TV Show.

Showtime’s Fellow Travelers made its mark as well, with Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey both winning for their powerful performances in drama categories. The winners’ circle also included Netflix’s Baby Reindeer and FX’s Reservation Dogs, the latter of which was honored as Best Unsung TV Show. Syfy and USA’s Chucky was named Campiest TV Show, while Netflix’s Young Royals took home the award for Best LGBTQ Non-English Language TV Show, another new category this year.

Adding to the festivities, Fantasmas and Problemista creator Julio Torres won the Wilde Wit Award for his sharp and amusing observations, while BAFTA and Tony-winning actor Alan Cumming was recognized with the TV Trailblazer Award. Carol Burnett was celebrated with the GALECA TV Icon Award, joining the ranks of past recipients like Jennifer Coolidge, Christine Baranski, and Cassandra Peterson.

Walt Hickey, president of GALECA, perfectly summed up the spirit of the 2024 Dorian TV Awards in his Monday press statement: “Congratulations to all the winners of the 2024 Dorian Television Awards. This group is second to none when it comes to elevating and advocating for innovative, daring work and celebrating the creative efforts of the future of the film and television industry.”
